@Robert Bykowski: not by my reckoning!! Besides the album I listed above (Tame Impala's "Lonerism", which I've been playing obsessively in my car for weeks now), I've enjoyed albums this year by The Smashing Pumpkins (best comeback of the last five years), Grizzly Bear, Fiona Apple, Frank Ocean, Guillemots, Echolyn (another brilliant comeback), Spiritualized (best concert I've seen in ten years), Anglagard, Big Big Train, Rainbow Danger Club...if any of these names don't ring a bell for you, please give even one of them a chance!!

My Top 10; Port of Morrow by the Shins, Locked Down by Dr. John, Some Nights by fun., Boys & Girls by Alabama Shakes, Wrecking Ball by Bruce Springsteen, Leaving Eden by The Carolina Chocolate Drops, Area 52 by Rodrigo Y Gabriela, Lions Roar by First Aid Kit, Blunderbus by Jack White, and That's Why God Made the Radio by the Beach Boys.

I am admittedly pretty mainstream. Of the current year's releases I have accessed, my faves:

1-Pat Metheny Unity Band

The rest, tied for second:

Joe Walsh-Analog Man
Beach Boys-That's Why God Made The Radio (Successfully recaptured the essence of their best period, and made the album relevant to today's fans, both young and those that were young back then)
Bonnie Raitt-Slipstream
Mary Chapin Carpenter-Ashes and Roses
John Hiatt-Mystic Pinball
Mark Knopfler-Privateering
Paul Simon-Graceland 25th Anniversary (Kinda cheating)
Ringo 2012
Nanci Griffith-Intersections

Tame Impala "Lonerism" is an instant top 100 of all time after you forget the Lennon-isms. It really started to feel like that might never happen again. I'm also slowly warming up to Bat For Lashes "The Haunted Man" after you forget the Kate Bush, Siouxsie Sioux, and Bjork-isms.
