The Greatest Single Love Song of All Time

To be absolutely fair to both men and women on an issue of this magnitude,
the answer would have to be a male/female duet, and that male/female duet,
hands down, would have to be:

"(I've Had) the Time of My Life" by Bill Medley + Jennifer Warnes

Original Release Date: September 24, 1987
Superb production, arrangement, vocals/lyrics, inspiration and genuineness,
together in soaring, heartfelt musical union - - it doesn't get any better than this !

"Here, There and Everywhere" by the Beatles. It has a gorgeous melody with beautiful lyrics.

2nd place:

"I'll Stand by You" by the Pretenders. I'm divorced, but if I ever got married again after finding my soulmate, this is the song I would want played at the wedding.

@ Robert :

True, but they're not genuine duets to keep the challenge balanced.

Still, I'd cast my vote for "(I've had) the Time of My Life" for the best love song no matter what . . .

As for my favorite love song (which also happens to be a duet), I don't think it gets any better than "All My Life" as performed by Linda Ronstadt with Aaron Neville. The song was written by Karla Bonoff, who did her own version, but I've always preferred the Ronstadt/Neville version.

A classic contender for "Greatest Love Song" - "Let It Be Me" popularized by The Everly Brothers but performed as a duet by many male/female duets from Sonny & Cher to Glen Campbell & Bobbie Gentry to Donny & Marie (OK, that one's a little strange).

Another classic would be "Devoted To You", also by The Everly Brothers and also performed by many male/female duets including James Taylor & Carly Simon.

Wow, THEE greatest love song of all time. That's quite a torch to carry. There are literally 50 love songs buzzing around my head right now. Here's a quick 10 that might very well be able to handle the torch.
1) Night's In White Satin-The Moody Blues
2) True Love Ways-Buddy Holly
3) Sara-Bob Dylan
4) Sweet Dawn My True Love-Crispian St. Peters
5) This Magic Moment-The Drifters
6) Songbird-Fleetwood Mac
7) Here There And Everywhere-The Beatles
8) Hangin On The Limb-Neil Young
9) Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow-The Shirelles
10) Catch The Wind-Donovan

There are so many beautiful love songs, and I agree with all the ones mentioned so far.

I like What Are You Doing The Rest Of Your Life, and Have I Told You Lately That I Love You.

Elvis Fan, Time In A Bottle is a good choice too. In fact there are many excellent Jim Croce love songs. He had a real feel for them.

Stephen.... yes, I think great songs are about the lyrics first, then the melody and the singer of course. Nobody can do it like Roberta Flack!

There is NO GREATEST Single of ALL TIME. There are too many!
