I'm sorry, but there is not a single better bass player than Chris Squire in Rock and Roll, the man is amazing. He is not fast, but knows exactly what to play and when. He is so good, he can take a song like "Owner of a Lonely Heart which is extremely simple, and still, make the bassline, at least, sound difficult

I always remember a story of my mom telling how she couldn't keep the timing of "Roundabout" when she first that song.

I've seen Yes many times, and own most of their albums and dvds.
Chris is definitely one of the reasons I like Yes so much.

John Entwistle was the greatest rock bassist of all time. He has to be--he invented everything about modern rock bass guitar! For best living bassist I have to go with Geddy Lee.

I just saw Yes this week and Squire was amazing. He has shot to the top my list (though he was probably there already). I think I am the only one to mention Andy Fraser of Free, which is kind of surprising, but then again most people in US only know Allright Now from Free.

Reportedly a lot of the bass on early Kiss records was actually played by Ace Frehley including overdubbed on Alive.

Pete Quaife - The Kinks

Even John Entwistle said Quaife was one of his favorite bass players.

E. T., I forgot to mention Roger Glover from Deep Purple and Rainbow. Glover's replacement in Purple, Glen Hughes isn't bad either, while I was never a big fan of his, I do like his current work with Black Country Communion. BCC is terrific.

Now you mentioned Roger Glover, I'll mention John McVie.

Both great, and they kinda look alike to me.

Chris Squire (Man is this dude ever awesome, he even studied an old classical method of playing which added to the sofistication of making it sound better and sound unlike anyone)

Geddy Lee (This dude can flat out play bass in ways words can do no justice)

Jack Bruce (This dude made Cream that much heavier, his bass playing is still very heavy to this day and stands the test of time, his bass roars like a lion and plays to such high standards like you see in jazz)

John Paul Jones (Try listening to Jimmy Page play guitar without John Paul Jones by his side, nobody else sounded near as good, plus this dude could compose music better than most people in any rock band)
