Wendy O. Williams was a real outrages chick, listen to a full album by Wendy & The Plasmatics and it rocks. A great live act as well.

I always liked Heart in the 70s.

But then Nancy and lead guitarist Roger Fisher broke up, he left, and they became an MTV pop band. They still rocked from time to time but he seemed to have taken "the edge" with him. And Roger's brother Michael was their producer.

Liked the first 4 Pat Benatar albums too. Another one MTV ruined. If you can find her Live on the King Biscuit Flower Hour CD (It's called Greatest Hits live)- AWESOME live album!! Has an extended version of "In the Heat of the Night" that isn't available anywhere else.

Heart has been back. They did indeed become an MTV pop band for a couple of albums in the 80's but check out their more recent albums like Jupiter's Darling, Red Velvet Car and I believe their latest Fanatic (I have not heard it yet) is also supposed to be good.

They have long since dropped their pop ways and are back to acoustic and electric rock.

I saw Heart live a couple of summers ago and it was a great show. I think "Alone" and maybe "These Dreams" are the only two songs from those MTV days they did. "Alone" is an amazing song anyway.

I've answered this before, elsewhere I guess, but I'll do it again, gladly.

My favorite is PJ Harvey.

I was trying to find a previous post of mine involving her as my choice for the new leader of a fictious existing band. Needless to say, 95% of the choices were male but I thought PJ would do just fine as a "lead" singer, other than the fact that she tends to sing mostly her own songs and probably controls her sound, etc.

So, in that old post, I managed to list about 20 or so links to youtube movie clips (in a few cases, entire concerts!) of her in action. Here they are....if you don't dig her, any one of them would be one too many. Some may think my list is a bit obsessive. Considering I have thousands of albums at my disposal, no one, not even Dylan or the Beatles or PJ get anywhere near exclusive attention. But, yes, PJ has become my favorite female artist by leaps and bounds. Yes, I still love The Chantels, The Ronettes, Joni Mitchell, Laura Nyro, Joanna Newsom, Erykah Badu and many others....but:

zlh: Finally heard Alabama Shakes...liked to band OK but not the singer as much as you do...different strokes...(plus heavy blues is not always my favorite.)

Different strokes indeed, Viva. Since I like 'em so much I guess I hope many others will too but it don't always work out that way. I guess I hope they have enough success to pay their bills and live comfortably and want to keep on making music together, but not so much that I'll have to pay $125 to sit 1/2 mile away from them at future gigs!! I'm greedy that way....

And actually, their heavy blues stuff is not really why I love them either. It's more the soul/r&b flavor of songs like "Rise to the Sun", "Hang Loose" and "I Found You", but the blues stuff grew on me too.

Yeah I think Grace will have to play theaters instead of clubs. Four nights at 9:30 club is about 4,000 people. We have a theater that holds about 2,200 and I know it'll be more $$$ than $30 a ticket like it was this time. I would be up for seeing Alabama Shakes open for someone and give them a whirl live.

Very funny.

Ann Wilson from her early days with Heart is my first choice.

Linda Ronstadt may be the best singer of the bunch... but I think Ann Wilson out did her in terms of being a "rock" singer.

For one performance... I really liked Sam (Samantha) Brown when she did "Horse To Water" in the Concert For George.

Like a lot of singles, that's the song that pulls people into the band, but I've found at least 3-4 others songs from the album I think are much better. These are the tracks that immediately grabbed me:

HANG LOOSE
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Le-3MIBxQTw

RISE TO THE SUN
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPM27mPK2EU

I FOUND YOU
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_6phFFn2tyk

Several more have grown on me to where I like them more than "Hold On", but after even just 1-2 listens i liked the above 3 more than the "big single". That's me though.
