I'm Listening to Meyer Hawthorn on "The Artists Den" on PBS. I have heard the name, but did not know this guy. His band does 1960's Motown with an awesome sound. Original compositions I think. Awesome. Is anybody into this dude?

Ed S,
I believe I saw him on 'Live From Darryl's House'. If you are into that sound/genre google the title, all the shows are on line.

I didn't know of Walter until a few years back and I was missing out as this band is really great and "Modern Daze" is an amazing disc.

The "Soundscapes" channel on Fios TV's Music Choice. Got a new TV and went from Direct TV to Fios and have not hooked up my also new reciever. Hi-def uses different cables so my reciever is on the floor and out of the box.
Do BLU-RAY players also play CD's? Anybody. Or will I need to get a dedicated CD player. The people at Best Buy say yes, thay are CD players, but it does not say that on the box.

I believe it is the other way around. Newer model BluRays can play cds but will not play DVDs

I have a moderately priced home player that plays everything related to DVD format. I play both standard definition, Blu Ray, DVD-R, CD, CD-R, audio DVD and about everything else in it. Well, maybe not 8 tracks... It's a bit over a year old and it was under $150. My PC has two multi format read/write drives in it that work with regular and Blu Ray DVDs. Of course, they also handle CDs, CD-Rs and all that.

J. Hand says:
Ed, it depends on the model. I own a multi player that handles both types of DVDs and CDs, CD-Rs, DVD-Rs etc. I have also seen players that are not so versatile. Check the manual and the part, usually on the cover, that has all the logo things like 1038, HDI, and all that will typically show everything it plays.

Also, if you go to the local Best Buy type place for your HDMI cables don't let them snooker youy into the $100+ cables such as Monster makes. I buy good grade, gold plated end cables and price shop. If you have an account and the patience, eBay isn't a bad place to go go for cables. Buy domestically and avoid the straight from China sellers. Too many knock-offs and cheap crap masquerading as good.

Still no CD player hooked up to my new reciever yet. So I am radio bound.
I am listening to 88.1 KKJZ, "KJAZZ" out of Long Beach State College here in the Los Angeles area.
It is a jazz station and I have NO IDEA what they are playing but I am digging the hell out of it.

"Glee, The Music: The Christmas Album"-Glee Cast

"Last Christmas", sung by "Rachel" and "Finn" is the version I am hearing on the radio and in stores. I also heard the Taylor Swift version but the original "Wham" version seems to have been supersceded by the Glee version which is much better.

Never have liked Christmas music of any type other than Father Christmas/Kinks and a very few other non-traditional X-mas songs.
