What's your description of her?

I love her melodies, voice, genre, and topics, but I find her lyrics naive.

Her songwriting is decent and her production is mostly the key to her success (Thanks to Emile Haynie for that).
The only problem that I really have with her is that she needs to do some work on her vocals.

If she never went on SNL nobody would care about her.

Lauren says:
Her songwriting and delivery are interesting enough, the production and arrangements are fine if a bit cliched, and the trite and trashy lyrics sink the whole damn thing. I actually felt dumber after sitting through her album.

I pretty much agree with all of you. I couldn't figure out why her lyrics and music were so dichotomous. I was blown away by the contrast of her voice with the musicscape...and then I listened to the words. Sounded like a 14-year-old wrote them. What the heck?

I like her debut cd.

Songbird says:
What is she posing? I don't really get that sense from her. I think she's young, nervous, and just doing what she does. The experienced producers who were drawn to her added a layer of sophistication that's beyond her age and experience, which is why I think people sense dissonance and maybe fakeness. But I don't fault her for that. My main beef is just her lyrics. Her stage fright is kind of endearing, imo.

Formerly known as failed recording artist Lizzy Grant.

Eh, lots of people reinvent themselves. It seems resilient. Failure = learning.

Micaloneus says:
I am all for people...or artists to reinvent themselves, but the name change equals poser to me.

Posted on Dec 28, 2012 9:47:43 AM PST
Hundreds of artists have changed their names. Was Dusty Springfield a poser?

Posted on Dec 28, 2012 10:20:57 AM PST
I'd smash her.

Micaloneus says:
Dusty had to invent herself, but not re-invent herself; and I bet Dusty's record label made her change her name.

By the way, did Dusty Springfield have parents already in show biz, like Lana or Izzy Grant Del Ray?

Posted on Dec 28, 2012 11:04:10 AM PST
Dusty didn't have a record label when she changed her name.

There's nothing wrong with reinvention. You're placing too much emphasis on the name.

I respectfully disagree with your opinion that no one would care for her but for SNL. She had been on the World Cafe radio show and her one song "Video Games" got a lot of airplay. She got a lot more well known after the SNL thing, but she wasn't unknown before that.

True Jim.

But I find there is something about her that rings phoney. But that's cool too. :)

For the record, I find the music that she puts out isn't dull (in that, she doesn't appear to follow modern pop trends).

Well, I'm drawn to the soundtrack-like production, her voice, and her lonely aura. I think I'm bothered that I'm a tad obsessed with her music. Perhaps it's just old-fashioned envy. Wish I ran away and traveled and made music when I was 18.

From the recordings I've heard she's got a David Lynch like soundtrack/vibe. Which can't be a bad thing. I'll give her that.

Adele, wants the spotlight back so Lana's fifteen minutes must be up.

I first heard of her on the independent station here in Philly where they gave Video Games lots of airplay and I loved the song! I later went on you tube to check out more of her songs and was very disappointed. I did not see the SNL performance but it seemed to derail her a bit. But personally I am still waiting for another song I like.

she may well recover from her snl debacle, but hooking up with axl rose. this girl is glutton for abuse, and axl's sorry record with women means she's in for some tabloid fodder.
