Excellent song and one of their best albums.

Dear Stevign:
yeah, I like it a lot too! LOVE the front cover, even though it wasn't exactly done that way on purpose...it still looks cool, after all these years, don't you think?

Joyce,

Nice version. Boy does Yoko look jealous of John's and Paul's bond. :-)

Joyce says:
Dear Ronct:
yes, but i think perhaps "threatened" is a bit closer....i think she wanted to isolate John, because she was worried someone would "talk him out of it"...do you know what i mean? I like Yoko a lot, but i think she was very insecure, and felt almost in competition with Paul, in a way.....i think she sensed something there even John didn't really "see", but couldn't really put her finger on what it was, exactly.....
yeah, i do like that version, but it's a bit fast, don't you think? i like it better a little slower, like the final version....

joyce

I think the group would love a serious discussion. :-)

I never understand why the early songs usually get a bad rap compared to their latter compositions. In reality, except for the latter popular songs I feel their best writing was 1964-1967. They wrote great songs after 1967 but their real magic as musicians and musical composers came before. The Beatles lyrics were more serious in the latter years but I didn't feel the music was as creative. The exception is obviously side 2 of Abbey Road. Individually each part wasn't extraordinary but together something greater was captured.

I guess I sort of jumped all over the place but let's hear it for their earlier music!

Dear Ronct:
yes, i think the music became more "complex", at least as far as sound and instruments/special effects goes....as you know, the further out there they got, the more i loved them! the other reason why things changed was "lyrics, lyrics, lyrics"!!! things were no longer "simple" like "she loves you" or "i want to hold your hand", but "i read the news, today, oh boy....about a lucky man, who made the grade...." and "close your eyes, relax, and float downstream.....it is not dying....it is not dying...", which for me was awesome!!! I love the complexity of both the melodies AND the lyrics, but you could argue a bit on whether or not the melodies were actually simpler, as John's idea of writing a song using only one tone, etc.... "experimental" works well for me, but i did like their early stuff too....it's just that i liked the later stuff much better! (weird is good!)

(i'd say mid to late period, for me, if we were taking a vote!)

ronct,
I agree. Their early songs were just as good as their later stuff. Maybe not as sophisticated, but IMO excellant none the less.
