My very favorites where I love the whole thing:

1 - The Wall (probably my favorite album of all time by anyone)
2 - The Final Cut

The next bunch I like pretty much the whole album too, but considerably less than my first 2:

3 - Dark Side of the Moon
4 - Animals
5 - Wish You Were Here

These albums have their moments, but all in all I like less than half of the material on these:

6 - Meddle
7 - Obscured by Clouds
8 - Works

1. Animals
2. Dark Side of the Moon
3. Meddle
4. A Saucerful of Secrets
5. Atom Heart Mother

1) Dark Side Of The Moon (it's such an obvious choice but it's so damn good!)
2) Piper At The Gates Of Dawn (Yay Sid!)
3) Meddle (One Of These Days is killer rock)
4) A Saucerful Of Secrets (As you can see I think early Floyd is best, after Dark Side-blah)
5) Atom Heart Mother (The most underrated of all Floyd albums)

Here's how I rank and grade all of them:

1. Wish You Were Here A
2. Meddle A
3. Ummagumma (live album) A
4. Dark Side Of The Moon A-
5. The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn B+
6. A Saucerful Of Secrets B+
7. The Wall B
8. Obscured By Clouds B
9. More B
10. Animals B-
11. The Division Bell B-
12. Ummagumma (studio album) C+
13. Atom Heart Mother C+
14. The Final Cut C+
15. A Momentary Lapse Of Reason C (never was an album title more apt)

I had to split the studio and live discs of "Ummagumma" as they are so different in quality and feel.

Dark Side of the Moon is my favorite. It is THE album. none better.
As much as I want to say Wish You Were Here or The Wall next, Meddle would be my next favorite. I wish we could include The Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking in here from Roger Waters, because I really have an affinity for that one too.
Atom Heart Mother has really grown on me ever since I finally got it a few years ago. I wish I could say Ummagumma (studio album) is up there on the list, but I just can't get past that Waters track, "Several Small Furry Animals...". Replace that with a better one and now we're talking!

I really like Animals a lot. And The Final Cut is really cool. I also like the now outdated bootleg of out takes called Dark Side Of The Moo. Lots of cool stuff in there, Syd, Rodger and everything in between. But Animals is by far my favorite.

I got-
1. The Wall
2. Animals
3. Wish You Were Here
4. Division Bell
5. Momentary Lapse Of Reason

Dark Side Of The Moon used to be on this list but, I'm totally burned out on it and cant even listen to it anymore.

9. The Wall
10. More

I am only ranking the Pink Floyd albums I own. Yes, I rank The Wall pretty low because it's difficult for me to listen to all the way through and the good stuff was overplayed. It probably is a better album than where I have it ranked but it's one of the albums I listen to the least.

Tough one. Dark Side of the Moon is their greatest. In spite of how much it sold or how hyped it's been. Dark Side is one of the ten greatest and most vital albums in Rock history. It's an album we can all be proud of when we tell someone; "See! This is how profound and great rock music can be"! I would like to ask all of this threads intelligent and engaged bloggers to give a silent amen to Rick Wright, who was one of the musicians who made this album possible. Yes, good folks, Pink Floyd were a band before they became a corporation. Thank God, cuz we would have never had a Dark Side if Roger Waters ran EVERYTHING.
Anyway,!!! My favorite Floyd is definately Wish You Were Here. It's their tribute to the immortal Syd Barrett. They had to go back to where it all started. They had to find their souls because they had become so insanely popular. Wish You Were Here was Pink Floyd's Nexus. It was therapy. It is essential stuff to understanding this greatest, of progressive rock bands.

Animals is stupendous. i love the ideas taken from Animal Farm and The Island of Dr. Moureau. If you don't know these books, read them!

i think Animals and The Final Cut are my favorite. The Final Cut brings together much that went before it.

to me, Dark Side is like Time and Money, and they are much less personal than later works The vocal compostion of Gig is great, but really, you could stick it anywhere. The coolest thing about Money is the bass line in the seven note meter. I wouldn't echo the sentiment of teacher in The Wall, but Money/get away/get a good job with more pay/ and you're OK. isn't exactly masterful either. Get away and OK could have been replaced by lots of other synonamous words if they rhymed better with pay. No comparison to She stood in the doorway/ the ghost of her smile/ Haunting her face like a cheap hotel sign/ Her cold eyes imploring the men in their macs/ For the gold in their bags or the knives in their backs. Smile and sign don't rhyme, but they can't be replaced with just some other words that do, because the words are essential to what is being said. Macs could have been something different, in that they guys don't have to be wearing macs at all, except for the imagery of the rain. And that doesn't even get into the simultaneous approach to men getting physical and/or emotional comfort from a woman. Lyrically, there is no comparison - only contrast. Musically, OK, go with Dark Side.

There is no point in listening to The Wall. You may as well watch the movie. I don't need to hear the helicopter and the footsteps and the door squeaking. It's like the sountrack to a movie that someone didn't bother to edit. Still a great soundtrack, but if i have to pick one Pink Floyd album over another....
