"She Loves You" / "The Last Time". First for both bands.

Not positive, but pretty sure it was

"She Loves You" & "It's All Over Now"

I think the first and only Beatles song I heard was when Paul McCartney played a Halftime show at the Superbowl a few years back..

I'm not sure, but these were probably the first. I can remember hearing them on the radio when I was a kid.

"I Want to Hold Your Hand"
"(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction"

Watching NBC TV (I think) broadcast of "Yellow Submarine." I was a cartoon freak kid.

Johnny Bee says:
The Stones - 'Nineteenth Nervous Breakdown'. Parents bought a radiogram (big old chunk of furniture combining a record player and a radio) in the mid sixties and a 'hip' uncle appeared with said single one day.

I want to hold your hand yeah yeah yeah

I used to think those 2 songs were the same song, so it must have beem one of those. Either that or it was the first song they played on ED.

As for the Stones, I have no idea.

P. Quijada says:
All I recall is seeing their first performance on the Ed Sullivan Show and I recognized the song even though I was only 5. I think it was "She Loves You." I remember my sister playing "Ruby Tuesday" all the time but I never cared for the Stones so I don't really recall.

Being a child of the 70's in the rural south, it was "I Want To Hold Your Hand", then "She Loves You", "Yesterday", and "Hey Jude." I (wrongly) assumed those had to be their best songs for a long time. To be honest, the use of "Twist and Shout" in the movie "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" poisoned me against the Beatles until I discovered "Rubber Soul" and "Revolver" which just blew me away.

The Stones got much more exposure: "Satisfaction", then "Jumping Jack Flash", "Brown Sugar", "Sympathy for the Devil", "Paint it Black", "19th Nervous Breakdown", and "Mother's Little Helper" were all on the radio when I was little. 80's songs like "Start Me Up" and "Mixed Emotions" really tarnished their legacy and made them into a joke. Brian Jones was the real genius behind that band.

Re: RVACountryLover says:
"None. They're awful."

If you never "First Heard" them, how would you know whether they were "awful"????

Spiritual Architect says:... Either that or it was the first song they played on ED.

That would be "All My Loving" at 7:03 P.M., Central Standard Time, February 9, 1964.

A customer says:
"I'll Be Back". When I was a kid, I caught my father in the living room doing a funny dance to this song. I don't know why, but that memory stuck with me, as did the song. To this day, it's one of my favorites.

As for the Stones, I really don't know. I'm not a fan. Probably "Beast of Burden" or something.

Hey S.A., long time no see!

The Beatles - I Want To Hold Your Hand
The Stones - I'm pretty sure it was It's All Over Now, but it's possible it was Time Is On My Side.

The San Francisco AM top-40 stations were playing: "She Love's You" & "I Want To Hold Your Hand" in January 1964 a full month before the lads arrived in New York City and they did real well even before the fabeled TV spot. The albums had been out on an obscure Canadian record label since mid-1963 but they were real difficult to find in California.
