We have terrorism because of OUR government's 40 years of F'd up foreign policy in the middle east. Our government brought it upon themselves....and us, in the name of control over oil.

Well you "do" have a certain look in your eye. http://www.picshag.com/pics/092009/the-after-sex-cigarette.jpg

On a more serious note; John Stossel makes a lot of sense. Ron Paul......not so much.

With all due respect, I don't think "any" government in the free world wants these radical nations controlling the life-blood of the planet. And no, I don't care if it's on "their" soil or not, free nations need to keep them in check or they will put an even stronger stranglehold on us than they do now.

Actually Hinch, governments around the world - including socialist countries such as Sweden - administer health care far more efficiently than the market-driven system we have in the US. Here, insurance companies and big pharma have to make their obscene profits before health care is delivered. Oh yeah, and every year when my employer switches insurance companies I am told which doctors I can visit and which ones I can't visit because they are not on the company's list. Fact is, in any civilized society access to health care should be a right not a privilege. The Republican credo that emergency rooms are for the uninsured is one of the reasons health care costs are so high. The uninsured often wait until a health care issue is critical before seeking help. Then costs go through the roof.

C'mon stevign. Also, with ALL due respect - You're missing the forest for the trees. The fact of the matter is we've had the technology available for over 40 years that would have weaned us off of 90% of our foreign oil consumption. Our politicians are puppets of the Big Oil Lobbyists.

Here's another fact - back in the 60's (yes, I said 1960's!) my father worked for Exide Battery here in Philadelphia. They had a fully functioning 100% electric car. But like so many of the breakthroughs over the years (the 80 mile per gallon carburetor is another one that comes to mind) the oil companies bought up the plans and patents and made them disappear. These are not hoaxes or conspiracy theories - I saw this electric car for myself.

Embarrasing? Why? I think most of the names on the lists fit right about where I would expect them. Merle Haggard might be the only surprise to me as I figure most Southerners and Country artists would be mostly Republican. There are few surprises to me in the list.

Number 1, it isn't a fact, and number 2, why "should" our government take on that responsibility for your health? They're not your mom or your dad or your doctor and neither is the rest of us who you are asking to foot the bill for you. Now "that" is a fact......as cold as it may be.

Sorry Strat, I don't believe in the conspiracy and even if it were true, you don't know how well using electric cars would have turned out over time. Besides, what in god's name would we do without petroleum jelly?

On the lighter side....

In 2008 I saw Alice Copper in a high school auditorium. During the song Elected, a look alike Barrack Obama and John McCain came onto the stage waving, they shook hands then began to fight.....then a look alike Hillary Clinton came out, Barack and John stopped fighting and attacked Hillary....the place went crazy, was funny as ever. Alice pushed all three off the stage and yelled, hey what about me, elect me......the song continued with a standing ovation!

You're right. That's probably why there are long waits for surgery in other countries and some even come to the U.S. for our less efficient and poor quality healthcare. Also, everyone knows if you take the profit incentive out of practicing medicine by limiting what they can charge and paying them less, everyone will want to work themselves thru years of college to become a doctor.

The USA has 24 doctors per 10,000 people. Sweden has 38. Norway has 42. Perhaps their prime concern is not making money, but rather helping their fellow human beings. (Not that they don't make good money, too) Hinch, business people sometimes have trouble relating to altruism. That doesn't mean it is extinct.

You bring up a good point, Hinch. And it lends to supply and demand (for quality).

Medical Schools need to be more financially accessible.

I can't imagine medical school having an easy course load. So its students must not only have the ability, but they also need drive and discipline. People possessing those qualities should not be held back because of financial restrictions. Student loan debt is a m*. If you get behind, your loans accrue interest daily. Too many bright children from impoverished families don't get the support -- means or encouragement from those around them.

Therefore, it's understandable that after the time, effort, and expense involved to become a physician, some would want (or even need) a great "return on investment."

Our educational system is part of the solution. President Obama is working towards that. Mr. Romney, however, wants that all privatized too -- which we know, will make it only harder to access financially.

@Stratocaster: "These are not hoaxes or conspiracy theories - I saw this electric car for myself."

I remember as a kid in 1980 seeing a TV special on a fully 100% electric car someone had built, as well. It also had a special kind of tire that was so amazing that it could run over someone at 25mph with absolutely no injury done. I saw the demonstration where someone was lying on the ground and the car ran *right over them* and they got right back up like nothing happened! And it was fully electric. I remember that special vividly because I was thinking at the time that within five years, everyone would be driving cars like that.

Big Oil is *truly* evil.
