Where to start? The "novelty" songs probably -

I humbly nominate "In the Year 2525" -- I heard it once as a kid, and that was more than enough!

Gena, I hate that song too. It may not be the worst ever, but it certainly is awful enough to mention.
How about "Surfer Bird" by the Trashmen?

Seriously, you guys would pick all those before LFO's "Summer Girls"? "New Kids On The Block had a bunch of hits, Chinese food makes me sick..." The prosecution rests.

I can't make up my mind which is worse. Both are horrible songs.

Gimme Dat Ding by The Pipkins. It's as if Wolfman Jack got drunk and trapped in an endless loop at a Shakey's Pizza parlor

Dishonorable Mention: "Honey" by Bobby Goldsboro and "Sweet Pea" by Tommy Roe

Projectile vomiting inducing.

Not many are aware that "Seasons in the Sun" is actually a remake of sorts of Jacques Brel's "Le Moribond". The original is quite sarcastically witty, but Jacks' revision turned it into sappy, melodramatic slop.

Quite true, venus! It was marketed as Jacks's own song and hinted at that he really was dying!! Sold millions. X-Factor or Pop Idol should wish for such success, oy!

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 8, 2011 9:51:07 PM PST
Yup, absurd really! Here's the original with English subtitles. Light years away from Jacks' version:

Paul McCartney's "Spies Like Us", one of the most obnoxious songs I've ever heard and it's dated poorly with the 80s synthesizers and the drums

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 8, 2011 11:44:43 PM PST
Another song I absolutely hated that I find to be cringeworthy is Charlene's "I've Never Been To Me", that is one of the most sappiest songs I've ever heard, despite the song being a Top 5 hit in 1982 you never hear this song anywhere on the oldies and soft rock stations

Probably "You Don't Bring Me Flowers" - Neil Diamond/Babs

As Paul Simon noted when inducting Mr. Diamond into the Rock and Roll Hall, this song alone most likely kept him from getting in the hall for 20 or so years.

Heh, the problem here may be confining it to just one. Let us not forget such diamonds as
Achy Breaky Heart
The Thong Song
Macrena
MacArthur Park (shudder)
Party All the Time
Sunglasses at Night
Go For a Soda
We Built This City
Pina Colada Song
Chevy Van
Sometimes When We Touch
I'm Too Sexy
Okay, that last one made me throw-up a little in my mouth, so I'll stop and let someone else take over....

MacArthers Park by Richard Harris is my choice.
