Beatles no doubt. They changed music history with every album of theirs being incredible. Don't get favorite and best mixed up.

Actually, the greatest band ever was/is the Lady Bugs, who performed the Beatles' "I Saw HIM Standing There" on both "Petticoat Junction" and "The Ed Sullivan Show." The group consisted of Linda Kaye Henning (drums/vocals), Jeannine Riley (guitar/vocals), Pat Woodell (vocals) and Sheila James Kuehl (guitar/vocals).

It was only a matter of time before people started taking this thread too seriously. I should kill myself because I love ELO and Styx? That's hardly an objectve opinion. At least Styx and ELO fans haven't left me with a horrible distaste for the bands themselves. Are the Beatles crappy? Not at all, but their fans make me physically ill.

I love Phish. Seen them around 40 times. They are hardly the best band ever.

C. Harding says:
While Beatles fans don't make me physically ill, I have to agree to an extent. I can't think of any group of music fans - on these boards, anyway - who become more overbearing and indignant when the slightest piece of criticism is directed at the object of their obsession.

This may sound like a cop-out,but I think each band have their own accomplishments that are as important as the next band, before or after them. Each person have their own personal favorite,so who's to say who the best band was, right? Do they have more than one hit? Are they still together? Has their output been consistent? Or did they fade out, never to be heard from again? And did they sell out? I think what the discussion should be: Choose the Best Band from Each Decade...Plus,I think the "best band" should be more than just "singers",right? Someone said Milli Vanilli, but they're weren't a band, were they? 2 guys who never sang anything,so that doesn't count at all.Disqualified.Sorry,Charlie!! That's like saying The Archies were the best band, right?

Brandon, Sorry to disagree with you but, for me, Trey is not even close to as good of a player as Jimi in any way. Chops, creativity, songwriting, innovation, performance, production, experimentation, execution - not even close.

Jimi has lasting significance and more importantly so many great lasting songs he composed. Band Of Gypsies is just a zetigeist of instrumental prowess, profound music. Trey is very bland and generic. Trey is not even in the top 100 of important guitarists, in my opinion.

When it comes to rock guitarists, there is Duane and there is Jimi and then there is everyone else.

The best and most influential band guys, is Led Zeppelin. They have pure hard rock energy in their music. Most every band out there wants to be like them. To me, they are and always will be a one of a kind band. Everybody has their own opinion, this is my opinion. :-)
