Patti Smith just announced dates here. I haven't had a chance to see her yet, so I'm definitely there.
I'm always up for Richard Thompson.
If Tom Waits ever tours again, he's on the top of my list.

I vowed to get on a plane this year to see Richard Thompson if I have to. Have been checking his website regularly.

Just checked the SXSW 2013 confirmed band list and Richard Thompson is listed!!! Yippie!

Tejas Woman:
Make sure you see RT headline. He is a great opener and I have seen him blow others off the stage but he'll only play about 40 minutes.
When he headlines it's 2 hours plus!!!

I have tix to an acoustic Lucinda Williams gig coming up here in Jan. Always good to hear her in that setting as the songs and her singing always shine.

Going to see Morissey with the wife next month. Not really my thing, but I'm open minded....

Yes is playing in a nice intimate venue and will be featuring "The Yes Album", "Close To The Edge" and "Going For The One" all in their entirety (no Jon Anderson though...) :-(

LIVING COLOUR is said to be announcing some tour dates in support of the 25th anniversary of their debut album "Vivid" so I'm hopeful they'll hit Texas as they did in 2009. Seen them 6x or so now and see them every chance I get...

Apart from that, fingers are still crossed in hopes that THE WHO will add a Texas date or two for QUADROPHENIA.

1-I need to see Lucinda do a full show...I saw her open once for NEIL on the Greendale tour.
2-Tie a board to your butt when you go to Morissey! (that comment will get me some NO'S)
3-I would go see Yes but the closest they play is at a casino in Pennsylvania and they are not playing Going for the One at that show.
4-The Who are for Bellboy!

zlh67 says:
1-yes, you do!! she rocks. i like her better w-the full band, but acoustic is good too... I've seen here once before acoustic and probably 4-5x with her band. Always good....
2-ha 2 funny! or maybe i should look for some shorts with the same message spelled out as i saw a girl in Hawaii had on the back side of her bikini bottom. It had the red circle with a bar through it and said: "NOT an entrance". I about fell over laughing.
3-bummer. wonder why they'd shorten the set for Vegas?? I like Going for the One too but of the 3 they're featuring it's 3rd for me behind The Yes Album and then Close To The Edge.
4-saw them do that on the telly anyway, as part of the 12-12-12 benefit where I thought they were the best band despite Daltrey's voice (once again) sounding a little rough around the edges; pretty cool the way they bring Keith back from the other side for that one....

And... looks like i'll be seeing ALABAMA SHAKES in March too! Recent discussion on another thread made me pull up their website and of the handful of U.S. dates they have for 2013, two are in Texas including one right here in Austin at (of all places), the Austin Rodeo which just went on sale today. Not much of a rodeo fan but, hell, I don't care if they play at a car wash grand opening, i'm there.

vivazappa: I expect RT will headline. It will take some doing to figure out how to see him without buying the entire SXSW package. I'll figure it out!

Zlh67: I was so focused on the Flatlanders show, I completely overlooked the Lucinda Williams concert. Thanks! I just got a couple of the remaining tickets-obstructed view, though.... so I hope it is not too bad.

Just caught John Hiatt and Gregg Allman at ACL - live. Great show.

E. Dill says:
Hmmm. It's been a while since I saw anyone live. (I'm talking performers, now) During my wife's illness, I seemed to quit even looking to see who was in town.

Let me go check to see who might interest me in the next month or so....I'll check one of my favorite small venue:

1/11 - Father John Misty ($15)
1/13 - Patty Larkin ($18)
1/18 - Freakwater ($12)
2/5 - Tift Merritt ($16)
2/7 - Yo La Tengo ($20)

and for the future....

4/15 - Chuck Prophet ($15)

I'd say Yo La Tengo and Chuck Prophet for sure.....hell, if I could get off my arse, I should go see Wussy tonight for 8 bucks....they've got two ex-members of the Ass Ponys and have a nice jangly guitar sound

I also noticed a gaggle of young female singers coming up that I don't know much about. I'll do some checking.

Hey, that was fun and useful. Maybe I'll check out a couple of other local venues and see what's shaking.

crikeydingo : Adelaide has all the best Festivals!

zlh67 : saw Morrissey on Dec 19th. He is a great showman and very gracious to the audience. Music was fantastic. If you're not vegetarian, close your eyes during the clips of abattoirs, etc. I liked his support act too - Kristeen Young.

2nd: First Aid Kit (sweet but a bit too clinical for me. Would have been just as happy listening to the album.)
14th: David Byrne/St Vincent
17th: Eddie Perfect/Tripod
24th: Alabama Shakes
25th: Elvis Costello
29th: Richard Hawley
30th: Waterboys

5th: Of Monsters & Men
9th: The Hollies
12th: Barry Gibb
18th: Neil Finn/Paul Kelly

5th: Fun
12th: The Civil Wars (gig cancelled - they broke up!)
15th: Neil Young
24th/26th: I have tickets for Broooce on both nights but the Sunday ones are behind the stage(!) so will probably off-load them. Going on the Tuesday means giving up already purchased tickets to Michael Kiwanuka
27th: Wilco
28th: Roger Hodgson
29th: The Lumineers (will probably let my two daughters have these tix. I like them but they love them.)

1st: Shawn Colvin
3rd: Robert Plant
7th: Driving Miss Daisy (Angela Lansbury/James Earl Jones)
26th: Un Ballo in Maschera (Opera Australia)

4th: Partenope (Opera Australia)
11th: Aida (Opera Australia)
14th: The Seekers

15th: Anh Do (comedian)

9th: Verdi's Requiem

Anybody going on any of these cruise packages? I was hoping to get on Cruise to the Edge ( Yes, Steve Hackett, Asia, UK, etc.) but I didn't hear about it soon enough to save. A friend of mine just left for Jam Cruise (Medeski, Scofield, Martin & Wood / Galactic / Femi Kuti, etc.), and there's a classic rock one, too.
