What do you mean "internet is up and down"? The speed? Internet is not usable? Router/network disconnects from your devices? If it is the speed issue I'd check with your ISP to see if they are limiting or throttling speed based on your usage and/or time of day system wide usage. Or, might even be a technical issue with your ISP's equipment.

Point being, a new router won't help you if the problem is at the source (i.e. ISP).

The problem isn't the speed. The internet disconnects, then will reconnect. This happens multiple times daily. Xfinity is coming tomorrow. Their system is docsis3.0 and my modem, a motorola sb5100 is rated to docsis2.0 so that needs to be changed too. I'm not tech savvy so my verbage may not be up to par.

Report back after their visit. If it is an ISP issue then a new router won't help. It's like puting high octane gas into a car that won't start anyway. :)

Xfinity is not fair player in the internet world (it is my experience), they always restrict the speed as well as the download bytes. So this is not a problem with router, there is not thing to with router. Today's router are smart enough to beat these providers speed . Good luck..
