good going Classic - was stunned to see all the 1 word posts & thought it rather pathetic. when I saw there were so many new posts, I thought maybe there was something big happening in the gaming world that I missed. but alas not, just some attention starved individual.

glad to have our new thread ... :-)

A Few Notes on the Vote Tabulation Process:

I have ranked our top 10 games in each genre based on total number of votes received. For instance, looking at the category of RPGs, Dragon Quest IX was the clear first-place winner with a total of 7 votes. If the number of votes was equal, I used the relative "points" as the factor for determining tie-breakers. For instance, still looking at the category of RPGs, both Zubo and Might & Magic received a total of 4 votes, making them tied. However, Zubo received one #1 vote, one #2 vote, one #3 vote, and one #4 vote. Votes are weighted by order of preference in descending order. For instance, a #1 vote is worth 5 points, a #2 vote is worth 4 points, a #3 vote is worth 3 points, a #4 vote is worth 2 points, and a #5 vote is worth 1 point. So Zubo received four votes and a total of 14 points. In the meantime, Might & Magic received one #2 vote, two #3 votes, and one #5 vote for a total of 11 points. Since Zubo received more points, Zubo is ranked 2nd (ahead of Might & Magic in the 3rd place slot), based on weighted scoring.

I hope this makes sense!

While I ranked our top 10 choices in each category based on your voting, the honorable mentions are in more or less random order.

I did have to adjust the categories on a few games, especially in cases in which the same game received several nominations in different genres. In such cases, I preserved the intended score for the game from each of you, but I put all of the votes together in one category. (For instance, Casual Mania was nominated in several categories: Mini-Game Compilations, Hidden Object, Time Management, and Other Puzzle, Arcade, & Compilations). The majority of the votes were for it in the category of Mini-Game Compilations. After double-checking the game description and genre distinction on several gaming websites, I determined that the category of Mini-Game Compilations did seem most appropriate for our purposes, and I compiled all of the votes for Casual Mania (regardless of genre) in this one place. There were a other few games that honestly could have fit quite neatly into several different genres, but I ultimately just did the best I could to pick one and stick with it.

Thanks again to everyone who participated! Now to go add some of the great games to my ever-growing wishlist... :)

I've been messing with the Art Academy program on the 3DS - got the free DL, as I can't draw anything & wanted to improve for the swapnote app. lol. most of my gaming time is going to DA:O .... I'm in the nightmare maze now. with some Zen & Sakurai thrown in for good measure on the handheld front.

anything got you in it's grip ? *gaming wise*

that Jesus poster really needs to get back on his meds.... poor thing seems to have lost touch with reality ...

To Whom it May Concern, aka: 6lb 8oz Baby Jesus~

Go crawl back under your stinkin' rock and put yourself out of your misery. You're not wanted here, and probably nowhere else.

Sadly, my grading load has been so heavy in the past few days that I haven't had the time to play anything. But before that, I was playing Resident Evil: Revelations on the 3DS, and I'm still finishing up some of the leftover side quests in Doctor Lautrec, plus my second playthrough of DA:O on the 360. So you're in the Fade, huh? The first time I played DA:O, I got incredibly lost there (partly because work got so busy that I couldn't play for a couple of months, and then I couldn't remember what the heck I was doing, lol). The second time I got to that portion it seemed so easy! Just recently finished my second playthrough of Jeanne d'Arc on the PSP too, and I still need to get back to and finish Atelier Rorona on the PS3.

Anyway, I promised the kiddo that we'd find some time for Skylanders this afternoon, so I have that to look forward in a bit. I'm also planning on trying out the new Jewel Link Chronicles game to get my puzzle fix in the next few days. :)

And, yes, Saska, I think a 3DS vote would be fun. It's probably just about time for a new DS vote too, since it's been over a year since our last one and quite a bit has come out since then.

What's everyone else playing these days?

Posted on Feb 13, 2012 12:18:48 PM PST
saskamazon says:
what Skylanders chapter are you on? we're at 22 & all 13 figures died .... oh dear, I felt bad when the last one collapsed! more a testament to my lack of skill getting through that area. must try again .... our 2nd controller went for the big one & I had to repace it last week so we could get back to 2 player gaming.

sounds like you have a lot on the go, both work & gaming wise ... I think I'm lost in the maze - sometimes getting to the red light (enemy) can pose quite challenging, although, perhaps on a future playthrough I would find it easier ....

I really appreciate it that you re-posted the game list. I, for one, certainly needed the refreshed look at it. Thanks very much!

I played through Broken Sword recently. That is a fun adventure game, but I was glad for the in game hints. It saved me from reading a walkthrough. I already have the sequels on pc, I played the 2nd some time ago and started the 3rd. I like the humor in the whole series.

I may start playing Jake Hunter, which I picked up a few weeks ago. I think I'm still in the mood for an adventure game.

Posted on Feb 13, 2012 2:47:39 PM PST
If you do start Jake Hunter, weemadarthur, let me know if you like it. It's been in my backlog forever.

Thanks, Classic, for the list.

I finally picked up Bejeweled 3. I can see spend a good chunk of time playing the Zen mode :-) I'm going to pick up a copy for mom for when we visit during Spring Break. I remember a time that "PC -like " version was slated for the GBA but that must have fell through. She's going to love it.

I love Jake Hunter Detective Story: Memories of the Past! It's really quite well done if you a fan of the genre, IMHO. :)

My copy of Populous arrived today. I picked it up at Raggie's suggestion. I don't know much about it but the price was only $8 so I figured it was worth a try. I'll pop it in for a while tonight and see what's what.

In reply to an earlier post on Feb 13, 2012 6:16:27 PM PST
I tried to play Populous a couple years ago. D. Carlson, let me know how you do with it. I gave up.

Posted on Feb 13, 2012 6:23:31 PM PST
SF Girl: My memory gets worse and worse...but I played Populous years ago...can't remember too much about it!
Am still on the Skylander game..now it is saving since I've beat I'm in the 5th level. I have drobot, which I put him up, got out Stealth elf..he's cute little character, and have tried the Sargent and one other? Haven't gotten my Skylander book...it has taken forever!
Been playing Sushi dash on the Kindle Fire
Been playing the new Jewel Wonder game...on my small dsi while I'm waiting on hubby to get through his hyperbaric chamber, it's pretty cool puzzle game.

Posted on Feb 14, 2012 6:37:26 AM PST
D. Carlson-Yes, let us know your thoughts on Populous. I thought about getting it on Raggies suggestion, but my backlog is so huge I had to beg off. I am still plugging along with Lego Harry Potter, Years 5-7 but I can't seem to get any farther on the area I am on. Still trying to get the second of the golden goblets at the end of year 6. Anyone who has played this....HELP! I keep battling all of the 'robots' who come at me, but the 'fire' in front of the 'stand' that holds the goblet won't back off. The walkthrough doesn't say how to do it, only to do it. I'm also playing The Lost City on my Kindle Fire and came to a point where I have done what I am supposed to, but it won't work! So, I'm stuck on two games! Frustrating!

Puzzler says:
DKG, I'm no help, as I haven't started HP 5-7 yet. In fact, I just started HP 1-4.

I'm about halfway thru year 2 and enjoying it. It's kind of funny, though, so many of the knocks against HP 5-7 seem to be about the button-driven controls compared to stylus-driven in HP 1-4. Well, I came to 1-4 after having played Lego Indy Original, and that was all about the buttons. :) So I keep using the pad to move my character in HP 1-4 just 'cuz that's what I'm used to. Every now and again I remember to use the stylus. I'm sure there are times it would be easier to move around if I'd just remember to use the stylus. My thumb seems to have a mind of its own, though!

Posted on Feb 14, 2012 11:09:59 AM PST
Puzzler, that's what I did too.....played Lego Indiana Jones and THEN played Lego Harry Potter. Using the stylus on Harry Potter just didn't seem right after playing Indiana Jones. lol I don't think its just because the second game is played with the buttons instead of the stylus though. Its just not as good a game as years 1-4. Years 1-4 was fun, and so far years 5-7 is just ok at best. I just finished year 5, but am not in a hurry to play year 6. It took me forever to figure out how to get Gwarp over to Prof. Umbridge. I kept getting that darn tricycle stuck. I had to start that section over about 3 times because the tricycle was stuck and I couldn't get it to move.
