You're speaking of Jackie Evancho. There could be a future for her as a classical singer, but probably not if she continues singing as she does through these young years. It's too bad, because she may be a potential dramatic soprano and we all know those are in way too short supply.

Some famous sopranos of the past were performing 16 or so, but as Cavaradossi cautions, some had adumbrated careers. And Cavaradossi should know!

She will probably go the same way as Charlotte Church...

She's a crossover artist and a talented one at that. The comparison that comes to mind for me is Deanna Durbin.

From what I heard- Jackie has a beautiul tone and excellent musical instincts. i hope she does NOT
ruin her voice without proper training and smart care. Sadly that may happen to vocal Wunderkinds.

Cavaradossi says:
Singing is not like ballet dancing and violin playing, in which starting very young is not only helpful, but almost a requirement. Singing so frequently the material she does at this early age is a very real hazard for Miss Evancho. My hope is that she is studying with a good teacher who is finding ways to preserve the voice during the early adolescent years so that real training can begin. Jackie Evancho does indeed seem to have very good musical instincts, especially for her age. I hope something more lasting than crossover fame will come her way. If I'm right and she turns out to be a dramatic soprano, the opera world will be welcoming her with open arms. But not too soon, please. Real voices that last take time to grow and be formed into something reliable for the long haul.

Cavardossi, you are so correct! That quivering jaw is a real bad sign. One must wonder about the impresario behind her. (Svengali?) Further, there must be a special place in Hell for such exploiters.

Jackie Evancho is such an angel. I could listen to her all day. I hope she chooses to stay with classical music but popular music has the added advantage of paying out tons of cash. In any case, I hope her voice doesn't deepen -- she'd make a terrific Soprano. Maybe it will stay the same since she has such a mature voice in childhood. One can only hope.
