My daughter has a Nikon d40 camera. She has the standard 18/55 lens but would like something that zooms in closer, I know she needs an af-s lens with built in motor. Any suggestions? Also what flash options are out there, when she takes pics at night it takes a long time for the flash to work between shots. She is starting her own photography biz . She is pretty new at this and we want to make sure we are buying the right thing for what she is doing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also any suggestions for a next step camera? She really likes the Nikon

I have a D40 too and moved to the D7000 (probably D600 next year). Flash recycle time is what is slowing things down on a pop-up flash, a speedlight should has a faster recycle time. She looks like she like doing portrait and you can get her a Nikon AF-S 50mm f/1.4G or even more bokeh with the Sigma 85mm f/1.4, I got this one myself. I can say it is my favorite. Nikon SB-700 AF Speedlight when you have the sun in the back of the head and you do some fill light. You can try 3rd party flash, not sure how good their ittl is compared to Nikon.

Wedding photographer have the holy trinity of f2.8 zoom lenses (Hebrew trinity for the froknows photo fans). But when you are making serious money back.
