Nikon Rumors (nikonrumors.com) has raised the probably of a D600 intro this summer to 80%. If you haven't heard yet, the D600's specs are expected to be:
5fps burst rate without the grip (a grip will be available)
No internal AF motor (so D lenses will not AF)
less robust AF than D800
2 SD card slots (no CF support)
etc., all for $1500. Some think that this camera will use is a modified D3x sensor. However, I would expect better IQ from a scaled down D800 sensor. Hopefully, the sensor was an early iteration of the D800 sensor that got pushed aside when Sony revealed that it could produce a great 36MP sensor.
Regardless, even if this camera comes in at closer to $2000, it looks awfully attractive. I don't need 36MP, but I want at least 20MP with the tonality, DR, and low-light performance of the D800. I might have to purchase a lens or two to replace some older lenses I have, but if this camera is less bulky (significantly less bulky hopefully!) than the D700/D800,
Nikon is also expected to introduce some compact f/4.0 zooms with this camera, perhaps, a 24-70mm and--finally!--a 70-200mm.
If most of this is true, then I have to consider it.
What do you think?
