Olympus OMD - why the wait?

Anyone had their Olympus OMDs from Amazon yet? I pre-ordered in Feb, yet to get even an expected shipping date. What's the hold up? Other retailers have been fulfilling their orders since the 16th. So frustrating.Olympus OM-D E-M5 16MP Live MOS Interchangeable Lens Camera with 3.0-Inch Tilting OLED Touchscreen and 14-42mm Lens (Black)

Some folks at Dpreview who ordered on Feb 7 are getting notices of billing, shipment and a few have taken delivery. But there doesn't appear to be any real rhyme or reason to it.

I'm not following the subject, just happened to notice the discussions in the m4/3 forum.

It seems like Olympus is following in the foot steps of Nikon and Canon, and not giving more stock to high volume dealers. If you really want the camera, check your local camera store. That's what my co-worker had to do to get her Nikon D800.

I am really surprised at their lack of supplying Amazon with cameras. You'd think that they would want to work hand in hand with a company that could do a high volume business for them. With Oly's recent financial troubles, you'd think they'd work better on their customer service skills. But I guess not. Then they go off an announce new cameras being available too. I suppose I can see why Olympus might not be considered a well-run business.

I ordered my OM-D the first week in April from B&H Photo with the expectation it would ship mid-month. I called them today and they said they have not heard anything from Olympus about ship dates after a few were delivered last month. This is very poor customer service. The company is going through reorganization but at the same time they just released a corporate statement about how dedicated they were to customer satisfaction.

This camera continues to get great reviews and I will not cancel my order but it is frustrating. I have been using Olympus cameras exclusively since 1974.

My apologies, I was indeed trying to answer your question. Obviously I misunderstood what you were asking. I thought you were asking if the rebate form would be honored if the camera did not ship before the rebate cutoff date. (Olympus will honor rebates submitted under such conditions).

Perhaps someone else can answer your specific question.

Did anyone else get an email from Amazon asking for approval for a revised delivery estimate on the OM-D? Your pre-order will automatically be cancelled on May 8, if no approval is received. Well, yeah, after waiting since Feb 8, I'm not going to give up now! Now that delivery seems to be near!

I feel your pain brother! I oredered on feb 8th from Amazon and i called them again the other day to only have them tell me it could be another 1-3 months before it ships!!!!!!!! No way, so i called my local camera shop last month and they said they will call me if a silver w 12-50 comes in and sure enough last night they called to tell me one silver w 12-50 came in and im picking it up in two hours!! It seems every mom and pop shop has been getting them in since April 10th but i have no idea whats going on with Amazon!

The black AND the silver kit is 2-3 weeks out (to my local store). Because it was delayed, olympus will also extend the rebate, even if I get the camera/invoice after 5/31.
