Olympus OMD - why the wait?

Anyone had their Olympus OMDs from Amazon yet? I pre-ordered in Feb, yet to get even an expected shipping date. What's the hold up? Other retailers have been fulfilling their orders since the 16th. So frustrating.Olympus OM-D E-M5 16MP Live MOS Interchangeable Lens Camera with 3.0-Inch Tilting OLED Touchscreen and 14-42mm Lens (Black)

Les Schmader says:
Some folks at Dpreview who ordered on Feb 7 are getting notices of billing, shipment and a few have taken delivery. But there doesn't appear to be any real rhyme or reason to it.

I'm not following the subject, just happened to notice the discussions in the m4/3 forum.

It seems like Olympus is following in the foot steps of Nikon and Canon, and not giving more stock to high volume dealers. If you really want the camera, check your local camera store. That's what my co-worker had to do to get her Nikon D800.

This is seriously frustrating.

I ordered Feb 7. Still no ship date.

Have you checked your local camera store to see if they might have it available?

Olympus must have shipped these on the slow boat from China.Don't bother to inquire at Olympus;they don't reply. If I screwed the pooch like they have with delivery of this camera,I'd be mum too.

I think to get the rebate from Oly I have to buy all the items from one store? So I will wait I suppose.

M. S. White says:
I am really surprised at their lack of supplying Amazon with cameras. You'd think that they would want to work hand in hand with a company that could do a high volume business for them. With Oly's recent financial troubles, you'd think they'd work better on their customer service skills. But I guess not. Then they go off an announce new cameras being available too. I suppose I can see why Olympus might not be considered a well-run business.

The rebate form states that the form must be post marked June 15 and received by June 30th. Does anyone know what would happen, if the camera does not arrive before June 15th?

From Olympus website:

"Olympus appreciates your OM-D E-M5 camera pre-order, as well as your order for one of the three E-M5 accessories eligible for the free mail-in rebate offer:

- MMF-3 Lens Adapter, Item V3230500W000, UPC CODE 050332-182776
- MF-2 Lens Adapter, Item 260051, UPC CODE 050332-170087
- FL-300R Flash, Item V326110SU000, UPC CODE 050332-179646

Please be assured that Olympus will honor your mail-in rebate claim for one of the three eligible accessories listed above and purchased during the E-M5 pre-order period (Feb. 7, 2012 through product shipping start in April 2012). For the time period provided, the camera and accessory do not need to be purchased at the same time, though they do need to be purchased from the same store.

If you have not already done so, be sure to order your accessory before your E-M5 pre-order ships. If you pre-ordered your E-M5 from the Olympus Store, please contact us directly to add your accessory to your exisiting order and to avoid additional shipping charges. You can reach the Olympus Store by calling 1-800-201-7766 ext.105141 or 484-896-5141 (Mon - Fri, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET).

We again thank you for your loyalty to Olympus Products."

Ken B says:
I ordered my OM-D the first week in April from B&H Photo with the expectation it would ship mid-month. I called them today and they said they have not heard anything from Olympus about ship dates after a few were delivered last month. This is very poor customer service. The company is going through reorganization but at the same time they just released a corporate statement about how dedicated they were to customer satisfaction.

This camera continues to get great reviews and I will not cancel my order but it is frustrating. I have been using Olympus cameras exclusively since 1974.

My apologies, I was indeed trying to answer your question. Obviously I misunderstood what you were asking. I thought you were asking if the rebate form would be honored if the camera did not ship before the rebate cutoff date. (Olympus will honor rebates submitted under such conditions).

Perhaps someone else can answer your specific question.

FYI - someone posted on a forum that an Amazon rep said that they may not be shipping any until mid-June. Does anyone know if the rebate form allows for orders from multiple companies?

D. Campbell says:
Did anyone else get an email from Amazon asking for approval for a revised delivery estimate on the OM-D? Your pre-order will automatically be cancelled on May 8, if no approval is received. Well, yeah, after waiting since Feb 8, I'm not going to give up now! Now that delivery seems to be near!

K. Todd says:
I didn't get an email, but I fortunately checked my order (which I've pretty much been doing every day since April) and saw the message regarding approving the wait for my pre-order...I've been waiting since February 8th, so I suppose I need to wait a bit longer.

In reply to an earlier post on May 11, 2012 8:57:18 AM PDT
I feel your pain brother! I oredered on feb 8th from Amazon and i called them again the other day to only have them tell me it could be another 1-3 months before it ships!!!!!!!! No way, so i called my local camera shop last month and they said they will call me if a silver w 12-50 comes in and sure enough last night they called to tell me one silver w 12-50 came in and im picking it up in two hours!! It seems every mom and pop shop has been getting them in since April 10th but i have no idea whats going on with Amazon!

bmacw says:
Called my local store. They called up Olympus. Came back to me with this answer:
The black AND the silver kit is 2-3 weeks out (to my local store). Because it was delayed, olympus will also extend the rebate, even if I get the camera/invoice after 5/31.

Just checking back to see if Amazon has actually fulfilled any orders. I see that Adorama and B&H are and quite a few smaller companies are getting items sent out. Why not Amazon?
