Correct. But the effort was half-hearted at best under W.

And for performing research in the field of algae based fuels, research seeking ways to create a fuel that grows and does not need to be drilled up out of the ground, a fuel that could be harvested and leave food prices intact, there is ridicule and scorn from the Right. I have eyes and ears. The comments by "the Toad" were insulting to people who are FORCED, coerced and propagandized, to pay high prices at the pump for the profit of the Oil and Gas Thieves...

That was my rant for today. Pretty good eh? :o)

I am somewhat familiar with the ethanol issue. I thought you were referring to something new (or different). The government has been involved in subsidizing ethanol for many years under both Democratic and Republican administrations.

What are they doing regarding fuel sources that grow out of the ground? I try to avoid any biased news sources (other than opinion columns) because I don't get the entire picture.

Flavius Stilicho says: "Now why didn't we also switch to a fuel source that GROWS out of the ground back then... Hmmm I wonder who was in charge then... let me think about this for a while."

What about those who have been in charge since then? Why haven't they done it?

Flavius says: "I was wondering where I might find this "free market" that seems to both exist and not exist at the same time, just in different conversations and where one needs to deploy the idea for best dramatic effect."

It is a very ethereal thing. A bit like Schrodinger's Cat.

Except in the republican case it is totally imaginary.

Thanks, I was wondering where I might find this "free market" that seems to both exist and not exist at the same time, just in different conversations and where one needs to deploy the idea for best dramatic effect.

I was trying to goad a certain person and hence, why the absurd first sentence. Statistically, political decisions and gas prices have a correlation between 15% and 30%. Correlation, in this event, is a bit misleading but it can still be of use.

<Timothy R. Wilcox says: Maybe, just maybe, the president does not have 100% control over gas prices.>

No guessing needed on the natural gas subject. BO has 100% supply control from public lands. Under BO's control, the production from public lands is down >30%.

Natural gas is not economically transported like crude. Private pipelines do the job from private wells. The free market has pulled off the cheap energy feat no thanks to BO.

Maybe, just maybe, the president does not have 100% control over gas prices. Maybe, his influence is more indirect than anything. Maybe, he reacts to the market and not the other way around. Admitting this would cause certain people to give up their primary hobby, complaining about the President. I should not burst their bubble. What are they going to do if they can't sit on the computer and rant about him?

Obama has NOT taken credit for the crazy low natural gas prices. His advisors have missed an opportunity or they just hate everything that liposuction's old mother earth.

It's plain to see that you lack proper education, at even the most elementary level. It's also possible that you're just a dunce.

Oh Good Lord! No movie references I suppose... you "good" folks really are no fun at all. You will have to figure that one out for yourself. My role here is not to give you everything on a silver platter. Take some "personal responsibility" and find the answer on your own.
