Rover says:
A. It's not merely to defend North America but much of the world.

B. The results of sudden, massive cuts is war.

"The top U.S. military official suggested Wednesday that scheduled Pentagon budget cuts could lead to war"

Rover says:
Sudden massive cuts will lead to many wars, small and large.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. If Obama gets his way, there will be another world war. Obama is seriously deluded.

Mende Mui says:
Ya it will lead to world war in lala wing-nut land!

- This is just a scare tactics from wing-nuts through fox news; cut everything else but touching the military industrial complex would lead to Armageddon just like raising taxes for the 1% would lead to economic melt-down.

When wing-nuts say one thing, believe in the opposite, it works most of the time.

Paul Crow says:
We spent more money than anyone else in the world on our military:$711 Billion dollars in 2011 for the military. China, in the number two spot, spent $143 B, one fifth of what we spent. Russia, in number three, spent $72 B, one tenth.

I thought you guys were supposed to be all about cuts. Surely when one country accounts for over 40% of all military spending in the world, there's room to cut back.

Mende Mui says:
The military budget is probably more than a trillion dollars!

- That alone could bankrupt a country...

Mister says:
Also worth pointing out that if US troops are pulled back from Europe in the cuts, we can't expect to sell a whole lot more F-35's/tanks so there would certainly be quite a hit to our defense industry

Mende Mui says:
Well the defense industry should start selling to places like Saudi Arabia etc. like they are doing now. They don't need tax payer money to do that. I don't think u need troops in any particular country in other to sell fighter jets.
