Mike says:
Macedonians are the real threat. You can't even stop them with elephants.

And if they get frustrated about untieing intricate knots they'll just hack it to pieces with their swords.

You'd better watch it or I'm going to send some elephants after you if you're not careful. ;o)

"Macedonians are the real threat. You can't even stop them with elephants."

That's the funniest thing I've read all week.

Terd Ferguson:

Scipio didn't need no stinking guns, he played matador with elephants using Roman soldiers as the cape.

Phill R. Upp says:
I grew up in the inner city, Detroit to be specific, in the 50's & 60's. I saw that the city is being maligned by people who I doubt have ever even been there. It was a great place to live & grow up in 60 years ago. I recall quite vividly th 1967 riots. My parents had already fled the city for the suburbs. I wasn't even living in the state at the time. I had finished college and was living in upstate NY. Both of my parents passed in the 70's and I had not been back for 20+ years when I came back for a church function at my high school that was closing. I was shocked as I drove on I-75 and saw the many vacant and abandoned auto plants. I knew it was bad but it was far worse than I had imagined. Even my old neighborhood in the suburbs had shown deterioration due to the loss of tax base. The auto industry was in decline since the 80's. Oh yeah, the unions share some of the blame but the Big 3 were putting out some pretty crappy cars. The guy on the assembly line didn't design cars like the Vega & the Pinto. The big 3 failed to adapt and the foreign manufacturers were quick to close in. The problem was not political as has been intimated by some, it was, (and is) economic. I had to chuckle when the two Senators from Alabama Sessions & Shelby hooted like a bunch of gored oxen over the bailout money that was provided to GM & Chrysler even when their state gave billions of taxpayer dollars to foreign manufacturers to establish assembly plants in their state while underfunding education and other services. It is unlikely that manufacturing will ever fully recover in this country unless we can quench our consumer appetites for foreign made goods.

Sounds like we'll have to quench our tendency to keep re-electing liars and thieves too, Phill.

I hear all of you talking about what happened, if this did that , & who did what. the fact is,what is gone is gone for good. the car factories are gone for good. I am waiting until after the elections to see how many G M plants shut down. there is a G M ealership close to me, the have so many vehicles they are parking them in a vacant lot next door. they have about 2 years inventory, HMMMM makes one wonder. after reading phill's remarks, coming from someone coming home for a reunion , can you imagine what a business considering locating there would think...(let's go anywhere but here), we have to accept reality things are not going to go back 50 years. I left Chicago 47 years ago & now live in southern Indiana, quiet easy life wouldn't go back if you gave me the place.
