"It is amazing how quickly the right wing went all soft on the war on terror when it turned out that Obama was better at fighting it than Bush was."

I have noticed this. I also noticed that the left got all tough on terrorism when it was coming from their guy---torture under Bush was wrong but killing under Obama is justified.

well, I'm pretty sure that we were cool with killing terrorists the whole time.

DEEZUS says: "The Project for Excellence in Journalism released a content analysis report suggesting that The Daily Show comes close to providing the complete daily news."

Interesting post, but saying it provides the complete daily news is hard to believe. Stewart is funny but so many of the stories are trivial and chosen because they can be made fun of. I think people who are politically informed and interested watch the Daly show, I'm not sure their political information comes mostly from that show. I know for college students that is their main source of political information but gives them a very cynical view of all politicians as dumb or corrupt.

DEEZUS says: "well, I'm pretty sure that we were cool with killing terrorists the whole time."

But we couldn't torture them?

DEEZUS says:
See, the way I read it, it's saying that shows that aren't the Daily Show are just as bad as a comedy program when it comes to informing us.

And that's sad.

In reply to an earlier post on Jun 8, 2012 9:00:04 AM PDT
DEEZUS says:
No. Because not all that were tortured were terrorists. Remember, waterboarding wasn't the only torture that we did.

I didn't look at it that way, but you may be right. I think the actual news stories on Fox, MSNBC, etc. are ok, but it is the commentators who have to set it up are too biased and predictable.

What about the terrorists who were tortured who revealed information that might have saved lives. Panetta said torture led to information on bin Laden.

And then there's current CIA director Leon Panetta, who told NBC News:

"We had multiple series of sources that provided information with regards to this situation... clearly some of it came from detainees [and] they used these enhanced interrogation techniques against some of those detainees," he told NBC anchor Brian Williams.

When asked by Williams if water-boarding was part of the "enhanced interrogation techniques," Panetta simply said "that's correct."

I don't know, man. I'm still against it. It just seems beneath us.

Me too. I quit watching Fox or MSNBC or listening to talk radio. Too much hate and hostility. I can turn my satellite radio on the Left, Patriot (right), or Power (black), and they all sound alike. They just substitute different names.

That's why I listen to POTUS on satellite.

...and Stephanie Miller. I like her show.

just don't pour water in their faces, right?

In reply to an earlier post on Jun 8, 2012 9:13:23 AM PDT
DEEZUS says:
If pouring water on their faces brings about torture that simulates drowning and could actually kill them if done incorrectly, then yes, don't pour water in their faces.

E.T. says:
Deezus: "not all that were tortured were terrorists"

just as all that are being killed are not terrorists.

I listen to POTUS also. Is Miller on POTUS?

no to water, yes to drones... I'll never understand.

DEEZUS says:
no, she's on sirius left. she's a complete, dyed in the wool, fully biased beyond belief liberal...but her show is hilarious.

I like Pete Dominick the most on POTUS.

yes to killing people we're trying to kill, no to torturing people.

E.T. says:
So, yes to killing everyone at the funerals or trying to help the wounded?

In reply to an earlier post on Jun 8, 2012 9:20:15 AM PDT

DEEZUS says: "yes to killing people we're trying to kill, no to torturing people."

What if torture reveals the location of those we are trying to kill (like bin Laden)?

In reply to an earlier post on Jun 8, 2012 9:21:03 AM PDT
DEEZUS says:
I still think it's wrong. I will likely never stop thinking it's wrong.

In reply to an earlier post on Jun 8, 2012 9:22:03 AM PDT
DEEZUS says:
I hate collateral damage...but I would prefer it to non specified bombing runs.

And yes, I still think that torture is wrong.

In reply to an earlier post on Jun 8, 2012 9:25:46 AM PDT
E.T. says:
I would prefer water in a guy's face if I might get information to save Americans to drone targeting that's killing many people not involved.

In reply to an earlier post on Jun 8, 2012 9:28:13 AM PDT
DEEZUS says:
well, as we both know, that water in the guy's face leads to drone targeting that's killing many people not involved.

so we both win...and lose.

Conservatives hear you loud and clear, Barack Obama. You don't represent the country that we grew up in. Your values are not going to save us. We're going to take this country back with Trump in command. We're going to try to take this country back. 26 59 minutes ago
