Obama's amnesty by fiat - shrewd political pandering or unconstitutional end-run around Congress? Sen Rubio's legislation already had this covered and would have passed Congress.

Not like it was the most pressing issue of the day. It actually may hurt the economy by making the unemployment numbers worse, with millions more seeking the same scarce jobs.

What was the pressing need to do this now instead of the last three years?

And made "illegals" second class citizens permanently.

Obama is offering Rubio's plan while pushing for the DREAM act as a path to full fledged legitimate citizenship. Rubio is toast IMO.

Captain says:
Obama on September 28, 2011: "I just have to continue to say this notion that somehow I can just change the laws unilaterally is just not true. We are doing everything we can administratively. But the fact of the matter is there are laws on the books that I have to enforce. And I think there's been a great disservice done to the cause of getting the DREAM Act passed and getting comprehensive immigration passed by perpetrating the notion that somehow, by myself, I can go and do these things. It's just not true."

This policy change is not the DREAM act. Obama still supports the DREAM act.

Rubio has only co-sponsored a bill that would give Hispanics with advanced degrees in math and engineering a path to citizenship.

He hasn't introduced his version of the Dream Act which let's face it, is an attempt at the Republicans to reach out to the Hispanic votes because they've realized they have no choice.

Durbin who sponsored the Dream Act said he'd be willing to work with Rubio, but the key difference is, Rubio's plan won't offer a path to citizenship so the Hispanics don't really like it very much because it won't change much of anything at all really.

hat bill, which has not yet been released, would allow some undocumented immigrants who came to the United States as children to stay under certain conditions but without a path to citizenship. Romney has said that he commends Rubio's efforts generally but he won't consider officially endorsing it until there is actual legislation.

Latino voters are split on Rubio's proposal, with about half supporting it and half opposing it, according to the poll, which described the plan but did not attribute it to him.

The Dream Act supported by Democrats, including Obama, has support from nearly 90 percent of Latino voters, and about 80 percent prefer it to the plan similar to Rubio's. That plan was also described in the poll but not attributed to any proponent. A majority of non-Latinos also prefer the Democratic Dream Act, Latino Decisions found.

Captain says:
Tough, it's Congress that makes law, not Obama. Obama can't get the Dream Act passed as you admit but Rubio can, and that is what this is all about.

Rubio hasn't even submitted his bill yet.

You seem to be working under some kind of delusion that he has, it's been sitting around for a long time and he's being sabotaged and that is not the case.

This is not a law - you do understand that Obama is changing criteria to issue legal work permits not the current law.

Rubio wants to change the current law to make "illegals" a second class citizen.

Obama wants to change the law to give "illegals" a path to citizenship.

Which will Hispanics support?

The answer is above.

Libertarian! Socialist! Patriot! Fryfan! -- "Obama wants to change the law to give "illegals" a path to citizenship." That's how desperate liberals are in finding new liberal voters. They wants to make federal criminals new voters.

What if those illegals parents robbed a bank and gave the money to their kids? Should the kids have a path to keep the money since they didn't commit the robbery? You cant reward federal criminals no matter their age.

Illegal is illegal and all illegals must return to their country of birth and go through the standard immigration path to come to the US. If they refuse to leave voluntarily and are forced to leave then they should never be allowed to return.
