Why do so many have their nails done when supposedly they can't afford to feed their kids?

Why do so many men knock up women, then leave them to fend for the offspring with no financial help?

Do you need a clean mouth to have your nails done?

You are really pursuing this. Maybe they have friends they trade with to get their nails done.

Sheila (NJ) says:
Why don't women figure out that getting pregnant before you get married usually leads to a lifetime of poverty? I certainly don't want to say it is all the woman's fault, but since she is the one that has to carry the majority of the burden for an unplanned pregnancy, she is the one that has to take control. Woman have the power in most relationships, they just have to realize they do and own the power.

There are also far too many women who decide that getting pregnant is the way to keep their man. I watched it happen to my brother, and why anyone would have wanted to keep him was beyond me. Don't get me wrong, he was just as at fault as the girls he knocked up, but considering he had a record and a minimum wage job, I'm not sure why these ladies were so willing to get pregnant to keep him around.

In the early 70s, wigs and hair pieces were popular with all us 20 somethings. I lived in NM and worked in an office that saw Head Start kids as patients.

Every time I went to the neighborhood wig shop to drop off hairpieces for cleaning/styling, it was packed with Head Start moms buying hairpieces or having them styled. This was not cheap.

So the answer as to why these women have themselves and their kids on social programs while spending money on non-necessary things is - because the system we have allows it.

If you can get food stamps and can therefore spend less on food, why not have fake nails or fake hair? And that's exactly how they see it because I asked. BTW - none of these women that had children that were patients in the office where I worked had jobs.

They are only using the system that we set up and continue to allow them to use. While we may think they are "cheating", they aren't breaking the law.

It's due to a FAILURE of parenting. In most cases you're a product of your enviorment .If you don't receive good parenting that's what you pass on to your children.

This would be another really important issue for the GOP candidates to focus on. They can campaign on banning women on food stamps to use nail polish. Small government all the way; in fact, small enough to fit inside a woman's vagina.

I think the OP may be an attempt at irony.

It's as if anyone who receives any sort of entitlement is expected to live like a monk.

In any case the point of the American socio-economic system is to enable consumers to consume without inconveniencing producers of consumables to much. We have the most stringent social "safety-net" of all developed economies. We pay an economic price for this.

In France, for example, government workers are given a daily stipend for meals. A prix-fixe lunch in Paris comes magically close to the amount of that stipend. People here would find this outrageous, but it means that the bistros are able to do a robust business. It also means that if I go to Paris, I can also enjoy a relatively cheap meal.

So can the kill-joy conservatives who denounce the whole system as "Socialist".

There's probably a couple of these left in France.

Somewhere.

It isn't a hard thing to learn to do without having to go to a salon to get them done you know? It's not even expensive. It's $25 to put acrylics on and $8 a month to keep them up. That's if they are acrylic. What is more likely is friends doing it for each other.
