Tony Bruno says:
Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal (R), whose name is often mentioned as a potential 2016 presidential candidate, penned an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal on Thursday that calls for contraception to be made available over-the-counter.

If women could buy birth control without a prescription, he argues, employers would not have to pay for it against their moral objections, and Democrats could no longer accuse Republicans of being anti-birth control.

Gee, think of how much money we could save on medical costs if we could buy all medications without a prescription. And be saving the earth by controlling population growth due to stupidness.

This whole idea of buying contraception over the counter is null because some forms of birth control are inserted inside the uterus, such as IUD, and it has to be done by a doctor. Birth control pills and patches are hormones, and many women cannot use them.

Brilliant reasoning Mina.

Not every woman will benifit so screw it.

Oh, and the fact that a conservative is suggesting it makes it BAD....of course.

Also, Tony, being a clueless conservative male, Jindal does not understand that the whole discussion is to have insurance pay for it, just as insurance pays for Viagra.

A woman needs to have a pap and blood test before she is prescribed BC pills or patches because if she is not in perfect health, she'd be endangering her life. For instance, one of the warnings on BC pills is the possibility of blood clots. Another is breast cancer. Furthermore, these forms of contraception are not just used for controlling pregnancies. They are prescribes for all sorts of ailments related to hormonal imbalance.

So, selling them over the counter is totally useless.

Axiomatic!!! says:
Prescriptions are for periods of time and have to be renewed. Once a woman is cleared for it, there is no reason to go back to the doctor every few years.

And some states have over the counter payments for Medicare and private insurance.

We sell Benadryl and Tylenol over the counter, and they cause far far more problems than the pill.
