"The airport opened September 1, 2012. It closed November 4, 2012!"

How much were we talking about cutting from Medicare, again?

Too damned much the money is so trivial that they do airports, bridges, highways, and harbors to nowhere in Alaska with it.

To date, the various "to nowhere" projects in Alaska have cost federal taxpayers over $400 million.

One person likes driving on a highway that goes on for several miles to where the bridge to nowhere never was, and looping around and driving back.

Talking about me? Or someone else?

Currently it's 1:45 minutes to my retirement house site on the other side of the Knik Arm. I am looking forward to that being shorten to :30 minutes.

KABATA is awaiting on bids from three different consortium's, from which the winner will proceed to build the bridge.

That would be some cold work....

Nope.

Ironically, as one of the nations cities with the best network of bicycle paths, half the year folks can only ski on them. ;-)

Yes at least a bridge is not like a 500lb bomb that disintegrates. A bridge isn't like a soldiers head that gets ripped apart

Ya think?

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 24, 2012 9:11:11 PM PST
yes

after the total world wide economic collapse that bush set in motion and yobmamama is finishing up
billions will starve from lack of food
then billions more from disease
while hundreds of millions die in wars fighting over resources

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 24, 2012 9:14:21 PM PST
"yobmamama"

What does that even mean? Is it some sort of insult? Code? I get that it refers to Obama, but why?

Actually, there were two bridges in the works. But after the national out cry, one was cancelled. The other also had half the federal monies nixed, but the project is pressing on, it is a toll bridge, and in the end collect more money then it will cost.

There has always been a giant sucking sound of a large portion of our federal budget going to Alaska. Ted Stevens was the King of pork and held that post on he senate committee for decades.

John McCain HATED him and strongly supported the line-item veto, if y'all remember. I am also sure that John McCain was aware of Stevens' little protege, the Princess of Pork, the one who got the "Feds" to allocate 27 Million dollars to Wasilla AK (a town of 6800 people) during the 4 years she was mayor.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/09/01/AR2008090103148.html

And then when she was Governor of AK, she held the oil companies over a barrel and made them pay all the citizens of AK thousands of dollars each- an expense which the oil companies just passed on to all gas-using citizens of the lower 48.

Like I said, John McCain loathed Ted Stevens, and I am sure he chose Sarah as his running mate to bring her loathsome tricks to the public spotlight. He knew his campaign was going down, and he wanted to bring her down with him. Poor John McCain severely underestimated the stupidity of the American People on that one. As much as I may disagree with John McCain on most things, I do appreciate his intent on this one. Could you imagine if she was still operating up in Alaska off of the national radar?

yobmamama means that the Tea Party people are seriously going cray cray now. But it would be even worse if Medicare wasn't picking up the tab for all their meds. Ironic ain't it?
