What I want for Christmas from Ammie

This is probably OT, but if I put it where is probably belongs (GBF?) it might be moved to Politics anway.

There used to be a website called CD Now which Ammie purchased. It allowed you to see all the tracks on a CD, and (oh, joy) play a snatch of any song, in case you wee looking for a particular track with a common name. I'd like that feature again.

Anything you'd like for Christmas from Ammie, other than to smell the blood of your fallen enemies and hear the lamentations of their women?

Much of the music they offer for sale here has that feature. Not all. Some artists and labels don't allow it. Try Jango.com. I haven't been there in a while, but you used to be able to listen to whole songs with cd quality.

Thanks, Ax!

Much of the music I want is sadly too obscure for Ammie to bother with. (Singer-songwriters from the 80's.)

I grew-up in the 80's.

I couldn't get through a hour of it. Although, I wish I still had my Frankie Goes to Hollywood 10" vinyl. That has to be worth a few bucks.

How obscure?

I want anything that ISN'T on a Time Life compilation.

MisterTee: Oh, no! Tell me you weren't wearing chinos and Dockers, too! The Republican uniform!

I'm after a song caled "On a Cold Christmas Morning," I found (and lost again) the name of the artist/writer. It's a boy's recollection of his brother's return frm "the war." (From contaxt, I believe it's Vietnam, updated to "the war.") Very touching. I'd like to figure out which of his CDs it's on. Ah, well, I'll retrace my steps.

Doesn't anybody else have an Ammie wish?

then you are looking for specialised collectors clubs

used cd/vinyl stores where you can copy them to cd yourself

I am sorry, but every time I see the thread title, I think of that song about the two front teeth!

You can try Last FM.

Also, just post a few lyrics of a song on the music thread, and someone there will know it. The music thread has some pretty strong experts in the field. If its country I can likely help you out, but I am not as versed on pop of the 80's as a child of the 80's should be. (I choose Ricky Skaggs over Duran Duran and I am not sorry.)
