They grew up near each other. They're just about the same age. They play alot alike and look similar. And they both helped create Hard Rock/Heavy Metal. Now look objectively: Who has created the better amount and quality of songs, albums, live performances, guitar solos, etc Ritchie Blackmore or Jimmy Page?

Remember Jimmy has been relatively inactive since the mid 1990s while Ritchie has changed from rock to renaissance the last 15 years.

To help you make your choice I've listed some songs that I believe correlate relatively well together. Jimmy vs Ritchie; Zeppelin vs Purple/Rainbow. Zoso or The Man in Black?

Songs:
Stairway to Heaven or Child in Time (which happen to have "borrowed" from other songs musically. Stairway from "Taurus" and Child from "Bombay Calling")
Trampled Under Foot or Highway Star (car songs)
Rock and Roll or Speed King (straight ahead rockers)
Black Dog or Bloodsucker (rockers with twists)
Achilles Last Stand or The Battle Rages On
Communication Breakdown or Black Night
Heartbreaker or Flight of the Rat (give Flight a listen before you make your choice. It might surprise you)
Kashmir or Stargazer (both borrowed from Indian music)
Good Times, Bad Times or Smoke on the Water
Since I've been Loving You or Lazy (blues)
Black Mountain Side or Wring That Neck (instrumentals)
Dazed and Confused or Mandrake Root (live versions)
Song Remains the Same or Strange Kinda Woman (live versions)
Ten Years Gone or Anya
In The Evening or Hard Lovin Man (check out Hard Lovin before you make your decision)
Living Loving Maid or Living Wreck
The Rover or Fireball
Dyer Maker or Woman from Tokyo
Immigrant Song or Space Trucking (screamers)
Rain Song or Gates of Babylon
Whole Lotta Love or Burn
How Many More Times or Mistreated
Moby Dick or The Mule (drummers songs)
No Quarter or A Light in the Black
Custard Pie or Man on a Silver Mountain
In the Light or Tarot Woman
Dancing Days or Long Live Rock and Roll
Hot Dog or Anyones Daughter
All My Love or Stone Cold

Studio Albums:
Led Zeppelin I vs All 3 Mk 1 albums
Led Zeppelin II vs In Rock
Led Zeppelin III vs Fireball
Led Zeppelin IV vs Machine Head
Houses of the Holy vs Burn
Physical Graffiti vs Rainbow Rising/Long Live Rock and Roll
Presence vs Perfect Strangers
In Through the Out Door vs The Battle Rages On

Live Albums:
How The West Was Won (1972) vs Made in Japan (1972)
The Song Remains the Same (1973) vs Live in Stockholm (1970)
BBC vs BBC (Mk 1 and 2)

And don't forget the guitar solos live and in the studio

I hope this helps.

I was listening to a conversation between 3 of San Diegos finest guitarists discussing what they thought about certain guitarists. 1 thing they agreed on was Jimmy Page is a genius in the studio but, Blackmore is the better live. Overall Blackmore has had a longer resume while Page retreated into his heroin addiction. For me, I'd say Blackmore. If you asked me this in the 70s I'd have said Page.

vivazappa says:
BLACKMORE is my 2nd favorite guitarist behind Jeff Beck...I love his melodic leads with his classical runs...he's great live and even on a bad night he still plays his bu++ off...so it's Ritchie for me by a long shot!

Chet Fakir says:
Ritchie is a better lead guitarist, a master musician and much more prolific, but Page is a more groundbreaking and funky rhythm guitarist and composer so I gotta go with Jim.
