Without overthinking it, here are probably the top few I've listened to the most over the past 10 years:

Amerie
Hikaru Utada
Shakira
Alicia Keys
Janet Jackson

P!nk, Kasey Chambers, Kelly Clarkson, Adele, and always Emmylou Harris

To my surprise there is no mention of Michelle Ndgeocello or Lalah Hathaway. These two are simply SMOOTH!! Neither really get the credit that they deserve, yet they both continue to put out excellent material. If you have never heard of them, check them out.

Rosanne Cash. Factoring in the singing AND the songwriting, and she's my choice for best female artist of the last 30 years. A seriously great talent.

Other favorites of the last 10 years: Kelly Hogan (her new "I Like to Keep Myself in Pain" album is tremendous), Tift Merritt, and the way-underrated Maura Kennedy of folk-pop duo The Kennedys.

i thought she was starting to look like jon-benet ramsey's sister. over done make-up, bad costumes and wtf is on her head? she's a beautiful, golden-throated young woman but that johnson's mop on her head needs to go.
but, again, the girl's got pipes

Eryka Badu has blown me away. i was so used to hearing slo/mid tempo songs, which i loved. but she has range and power that blows me away. i saw her on an awards show in a dedication to chaka khan and she tore it up on STAY...

Amy Winehouse's was a voice that comes along once in a lifetime. Unique, classic, fresh, and hauntingly emotional all a the same time. If it hadn't been for Adele, I think I might have just given up on music altogether after Amy's passing.

My angsty, pop rockin' Kelly Clarkson.

When you say of the last 10 years, I think of people who came out within that time frame. A lot of people are saying Mariah Carey (my favorite singer of all time) but she came out in 1990 and sang backup before that.

Florence Welch of Florence + The Machine. Her voice and music are like a combination of Sinead O'Connor, Kate Bush, and Siouxsie. Definitely has a bright future!
