My skill level with computers is somewhere between newbie and experienced user. However, I've taken two classes so far in computer science and realized that I will need supplemental information outside of my classes, so i am trying to build up a computer library. any suggestions will be welcome. (also I also would like to work in the computer field--mainly programming). Thank you for all suggestions.

Computer science and programming are two different things. Generally you have to learn programming first, because it's the language computer scientists use to investigate problem-solving (which is what computer science is _really_ about.)

If you want to be more comfortable with programming, just write a lot of programs. Books can help, but ultimately this is a skill you simply have to do to learn.

You might start with a book in the 'How to think like a computer scientist' series:

There are several versions of the book available for free online, using various programming languages (C++, Java, Python, and Logo) I'm using the Python version as the primary textbook for my CS1 course next year.

When you're ready to learn a specific language and technology, there are many fine alternatives. (-and I've written a few of them...)
