MLC says:
This is purely a cultural issue and not something that pertains to the Christian woman today. In Corinth, the pagan temples offered prostitutes. These women had their hair shorn. To set Christian women apart from the prostitutes of the pagan temples, they were to cover their heads.

And FashionSense is correct. It was the Nazirites who shaved their heads, not Nazarenes. Nazirites were people who voluntarily chose to dedicate their lives completely to God for a specified and limited amount of time. The name comes from the Hebrew word 'nazir' which means 'to consecrate' or 'set apart'. Their vow included not cutting their hair for the duration they chose.

Nazarenes in that day and age were people who came from Nazareth.

I can't emphasize enough the need to study the culture and history of that day and age as well as proper Biblical interpretation to avoid misunderstanding.

According to modern day Corinthians, a bikini wax is totally acceptable, as long as it's done in the first trimester of hair growth.
However, if you choose the path of the Brazilian, founded by the Seven Bald Sisters of Padilha, you are SO going to Hell.

1Godbeliever said: "A woman is not supposed to cut her hair, for it is her glory. 1 Corinthians 11. and a man should not have long hair, for it shameful. Look it up."

>Does that also rule out bikini waxing?

You got 4 yes votes for this one?
Wow.

Just curious. If the Bible is against it, why are some nuns required to cut their hair?

-- and, since they are 'married' to the church and/or to Jesus, wouldn't that indicate disrespect toward their holy husbands?

Well, that explains it. The Nazarene church I went to refused to recognize any other except New American Standard Bible which was the *only* translation they would read. Thanks, prob.

Nancy Davison says:That's right, except it was the Nazarenes, which is why they called him Jesus of Nazareth, and not because he was from any town by that name.

umm, nope. This does show atheist mythmaking in progress though.

FS: "Nazarites had long hair. They took vows not to cut their hair"

You are misinformed. BTW, it's Nazarenes.

I'm glad to hear that. Since I don't "do" drugs and never have, your suggestion has no validity.

No, horse, I've already "seen", and there are no worries on my side of the fence. How about yours?

He may well tell you differently when your number is up

No, horse, "he" doesn't make the rules. The men who wrote that garbage made the rules and then passed them off as some kind of inspiration coming from their self-created little "god".

I'm generally okay with the prohibition against a woman cutting the hair on her *head*. Other places need a bit of a trim now and then... ;-p
