Charles says:
Mysticism is not taught of in many churches. Most large congrigation of mainstream religions do have mystic members that will meet. Myticism has been a part of all religions and in some cases is the base of the religion.
Can we start with this if you wish to learn of it.
What do any of you know of Mysticism ?

The Catholic church has several paths of mysticism that I have discovered. At least these groups were begun by Catholics, but are definitely not limited to Catholics:

http://www.contemplativeoutreach.org/--this is a tradition that harkens back to Thomas Merton and Thomas Keating. The Seven Storey Mountain, Open Mind, Open Heart

Then there is the hermitage type of lifestyle: Raven's Bread Mysteries http://www.ravensbreadministries.com
Where God Begins to Be: A Woman's Journey into Solitude

I am always amazed at how few church-attending Catholics know about the great mystical traditions in their church.

And of course, then there are the Buddhists as well as Ananda http://www.ananda.org/classes/teaching-centers.html and Self Realization Fellowship http://www.yogananda-srf.org/Default.aspx. The Zen Buddhists have a huge presence in the San Francisco Bay area. Steve Jobs and Governor Brown are two prominent people connected to the Zen Center. That center even has a group locally where I live in Humboldt County--my acupuncturist is a member.

Quite a bit of knowledge shared there, thank you ! Have you ever practiced mysticism or had any experiences you could share?

Andre, what brings you to that conclusion, if you care to share it here ?

The total lack of evidence supporting such claims.

-I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours.-

Jeremy,

Mysticism is practice of Christianity. It is simply not practiced my most Christians.

nope. I belong to a Christian church. I am, however, in my community, surrounded by many Buddhists. My son & daughter-in-law are Buddhists.

KMP -- Mysticism is practice of Christianity. It is simply not practiced my most Christians.

The first statement is incorrect, thus rendering the second irrelevant.

In reply to an earlier post on Jun 21, 2012 1:34:21 PM PDT
Where did you get the idea that mysticism is anti-Christianity. Many Christians practice it.

KMP:'Please explain how you believe in one less god than someone else does.'

-Atheism is, in a broad sense, the rejection of belief in the existence of deities.[1][2]- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atheism

Duh.

Obviously, you and I know different Christians. I know many Christians who practice mysticism.

There are thousands of gods; you believe in only one of those Gods, and atheists believe in one less god than you do.

what christian church brand name is that ?

In reply to an earlier post on Jun 21, 2012 1:36:13 PM PDT
Kathleen, what IS a Christian?

In reply to an earlier post on Jun 21, 2012 1:36:34 PM PDT
bible says it is not
and to avoid it
no real Christians practice it

In reply to an earlier post on Jun 21, 2012 1:36:40 PM PDT
I guess, I don't understand. Simply put, atheists do not have a belief in a God. However some Buddhists do not require a belief in God to practice their mystical practices.

In reply to an earlier post on Jun 21, 2012 1:37:23 PM PDT
I understand that part, Bubba. However, I no longer believe in God. I am more in the direction of knowing God.

In reply to an earlier post on Jun 21, 2012 1:37:26 PM PDT
you just think you know Christians
true Christians never practice mysticsm
bible warns against it

if you dont believe the bible
then you have no claim to Christian in the first case

In reply to an earlier post on Jun 21, 2012 1:38:04 PM PDT
