S. Friedman says:
Hey Jack,

Say you're in a small group at work, and two co-workers talk for a while and discover that both of their fathers were born on the same date, or that both stayed at the same hotel in Vegas during the same week, 3 years before they ever met.

Inevitably, someone will say, "Wow! What are the odds?"

Not that I go out of my way to burst a person's bubble, but I'll often reply "100%." (Yes, I know that's a percent and not odds, but most don't understand the distinction.) Describing the odds of an event that's already happened? Of course it's 1:1.
I tell them, Go ahead, predict an event/coincidence that hasn't already happened or become known, and we can figure out the odds for it.

With trillions of things happening at all times in all places, the odds would be astronomical that coincidences *didn't* happen.
