Always in the first slot of my car's cd player is "Amazing Grace"-Aretha. David and Marvin are always in #2 and Phoebe Snow in #6. Three through five changes between Sam, Eddie, Tempts, The Dells, James Brown, Etta James, Ella and new artists or some old music I may have discovered.

Heyy Musiclvr,
Are you going to see that movie this weekend? I'm looking forward it. I'll listen for that song.

~~~~~~~
ToneLoc,
Cameo's one of my all-time favorite bands/groups. I started looking to replace my cassettes with CDs recently and ------- WHEW! They're pretty expensive, all over $80.00
~~~~~~~~

mediaagent,
I'm going to start a favorite J5 song thread [laughing]

~~~~~~~~~
I haven't hooked into Ledisi yet, Ms. 90
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

nor Raheem DeVaughn,
Lt. Uhura,
but 'It Won't Be Soon Before Long' has been in my shopping list for some time now. Woke up one night and one their videos was on VH1 -- don't remember the song, but thought it was pretty good.

I have Rick James' 'Deeper Still'; didn't think many other people did. I never hear or read anything about it. What do you think of it?

~~~~~~~~~
Lisa!
I was all into ReRe before I finally received my Chaka Khan and Angie Stone cds: Lady Soul, The Delta Meets Detroit: Aretha's Blues, Young Gifted and Black, So Damn Happy, A Rose Is Still Is a Rose. I have to get Amazing Grace!
----------------------------------------------------
For me tonight, Nina Simone is in my pc: At the Village Gate. That "tremolo" thing she does is f r e a k y. Any of you ever listen to her?
70s,
My daughter LOVES her some Nina Simone. I like her a lot too. It was daughter who introduced me to more of the music. You must get Amazing Grace...it just moves you...remember track #3!
I like both Chaka and Angie...so I feel ya!
Listening to the Spinners Anthology (for the umpteenth time) - my 4 year old son loves "Living a Little, Laughing a Little" so I have to keep it in the car.
I am also listening to Angela Bofill "I Wanna Love Somebody" - I just love "You Will Always Be A Part of Me" featuring Kirk Whalum and "I Wonder Why"
Also listening to Vanessa Rubin "Pastiche" not Soul or R&B but Jazz - she has a great classic jazz voice.
I also listen to the playlists that I have built on a website called finetune.com. I have a couple of soul ballad lists (each list must have at least 45 songs to be able to play) and some other interesting stuff. It gives a fair idea of my listening taste.
70s Soul:
I enjoy Rick's last cd. It's mellow and stable. Like Rick on qualuudes. Seriously, I bought the cd in homage to Rick. But I enjoy Deeper Still, Guenevere, and some other cuts. The other night I watched a Chappelle Show rerun, he was doing the Rick James, spoof. It made me sad.
I don't think I've been the same since Rick, Ol' Dirty Bastard, Luther Vandross, and Willie Hutch passed away.
I think I need to play Willie's, "Love Power."
Lisa,
I was reading yours and other posts about Nina Simone in another thread -- I don't remember which, and got curious. Then I saw a concert video featuring her daughter, Simone, and liked her voice and her song tribute to her mom. Decided to check out mom. I bought 'At the Village Gate' first after reading about its history -- it intrigued me. Very interesting, the songs she composed and performed there -- it's a live concert cd. When I have more money, I'll buy her Anthology.
Hi Andy B.
I have a lot of The Spinners CDs in my shopping list. My mom and older sister wore them out when I was growing up so I can totally relate to your son. : )
~~~~~~~~~

Gosh Vanessa,

I haven't listened to any of those in a long time. Can't say I've listened to Swing Out Sister. ??
[laughing] I've read your posts about them.

~~~~~~~~~~~
Ms. 90,
We have a lot of the same music. You like Sizzla though? I got him by accident. I was looking for something by Maxi Priest that hadn't been released in the US yet.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Maldrige Mace,

I hope you like "Funk This." I'm in love with Angel and Chaka. I read her autobiography last weekend, 'Through the Fire.'

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lt. Uhuru,
I do like that Rick James cd, 'Deeper Still.' I just think they went real cheap on the production/engineering. But each song is listenable. Rick was trying to grow up on that cd. It's mature.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Tonight, Lionel Richie is in my player, 'Louder Than Words' -- due to another thread. Prior to that, I was listening to my Duets mp3 playlist which contains:

"I'm Back for More" - Jean Carne & Al Johnson
"I Wanna Be By Your Side" - Syreeta & GC Cameron
"Where Is the Love" - Roberta & Donnie
"We Both Need Each Other" - Phyllis Hyman & Michael Henderson/Norman Connors
"Just as Long as We Have Love" - Dionne Warwick & the Spinners
"Love All the Hurt Away" - Aretha & George Benson
"I Who Have Nothing" - Luther Vandross & Martha Wash
"Hello, Hello" - Angela Winbush & Ron Isley
"Piece it Together" - Zhane & Will Downing /Najee
"Sweet Music. Soft Lights and You" - Millie Jackson & Isaac Hayes
"Simple Life" - Maysa & Will Downing
"Take Me" - Teedra Moses & Raphael Saadiq
"Happy" - Teena Marie & Rick James
"Weakness" - Dionne Warwick & Stevie Wonder
"A Rose by Any Other Name" - Teena Marie & Gerald Levert

70s Soul-I'm definitely going to see American Gangster this weekend. I'm looking forward to the music as well as the actual movie.

I have a few Nina Simone cds. I'm crazy about Wild is the Wind. Verve has put ou a few remix cds and she's featured on them. Sinnerman is on Verve Remixed #2. Its a great remix. I've heard it in a few movies and television shows.

Toneloc-I might invest in Candi Staton's Greatest Hits. I've always liked Young Hearts Run Free Tonight and I discovered You Got the Love in an episode of Sex and the City.

70s - somebody in a record store hipped me to Sizzla. Bobo Ashanti was my first purchase. Now, I must confess, alot of Sizzla's stuff I don't particularly care for. I like his kinder gentler recordings - LOL

In my collection, I have Bobo Ashanti, Royal Son of Ethiopia, Da Real Thing and Black Woman and Child.

I see he has a release for 2007 - gotta listen to some snippets and see if this one will fit with the others.

I just got Aretha's Rare and Unreleased Recordings cd their selling on Amazon. All I've listened to so far is an alternate version of "Rock Steady", I'm loving it! The released version is better, but I'm feeling this version too. It's a lot of songs on this 2 disc set.
