I just logged on and see 81 new posts. I admit, I'm confused by all the code talk and other references, but amused by the responses. Of course, I've been trying to make a cd on I Tunes (have done before) and keep getting error message. Ruined at least 10 disks. What is the saying, "A person who keeps doing the same thing and getting the same result is an idiot? (paraphrasing), may be moron. Anyway, that's me today.

"Not sure how the Bob James and Earl Klugh (contemporary jazz) got in there"

Lol! Probably Andy, becuase whether u wana except it or not Jazz has come under the banner of R&B....thats why Raps, Fusion and yup even Reggae can have a place here....in historical terms R&B is way wider and more encompassing than El Debarge.

And come Andy, put your badge and gun down...peeps been including everything from Robin Thicke [?] to David Bowie in their posts. Relax and enjoy the game.

Mornin Mr P.

Funny you typed "Relax and enjoy the game" because yes it is just that, a musical trivia game. Yet if some rules aren't set, we'd be "ALL OVER THE PLACE" with every genre trying to play the game, lol. Knowing us, as I do... We NEVER follow the rules on ANY discussion started on Amazon to the TEE....

So with that said leaves the whole point of coming up with the "This and that" thread. Sure we'll go off the rails every once in a while, but certain banter is reserved for certain threads.

P.S. We know that Andy is trying to stick to the rules of the thread. And I am playfully trying to enforce them. To be honest, once the game got on it's way, R&B was stated as a rule, but seeing how you explain the historial terms of R&B, guess there are no rules but one... STAY IN R&B.

Hey MzWriter,

See, mama knows best! ;) sup girl. Yup, sure some actually forget this forum is called he 'Rhythm and Blues' forum and/or just live in a bubble of 79-95 version of what the Billboard charts defined was R&B.

I've seen peeps post a Jazz or Jazz Fusion song title on here and put the word Jazz in brackets??? In the same list as a David Bowie tune...but with no explanation of genre???

Yup, just a game....but good 2 have some rules otherwise it dont make much of a game does it? And it is fun 2 bend a rule or 2 along the way. But yup, I'm wiv u honee, when u know the whole history of R&B music of the last 50 odd years [and that can and doesinclude Blues 2 Hip Hop for those sleepin at the back!] there really is no real excuse not to STAY IN R&B!

Ya all heard Mama!! Fix Up! ;) Lol!

Awww come on, Mr P.

Being the guilty participant who cited David Bowie. Granted, he isn't an R&B artist but three of his songs were played on Black radio in the 70s. He was even a guest on Soul Train.

Andy B says:
Hey Mz and Mr. P - it's all good with me. Believe me, I ain't no stiff - I can bend/break the rules with the best of 'em. So my badge and gun have been put away. I don't want to spoil the fun of this thread - and it has been fun. But like Mr. P says - there is so much R&B out there that for the most part we should be able to stay in R&B. But let me say this: the attempts to justify some of the non R&B selections have been hilarious.

Mr. P says:
Lol!! Oh thats ok then 70's.

The point being that technically/historically speaking being on the 'Rhythm and Blues' forum....there is no real need 2 define a tune in brackets if it comes under the umbrella term of popular Black music that is R&B.

And yet, David Bowie, no matter how much he was bitin James Brown arrangements by 74 or had Luther Vandross as back up singer or suddenly went from Ziggy 2 Funky and was on Black radio or Soul Train makes him R&B.....and why Jazz has 2 be noted in brackets....but no [POP/Rock] category for the Thin White Duke?

Thats Funky in all the wrong ways.

Its just a game anyways. Labels huh? No one curin cancer here. But u get where I'm comin from? Because u may see Jazz as a totally disconnected genre [and it is in itself becuase of its mainstream history and influence over the last 100 years as is Soul , Funk, etc.] dont mean everyone else does....and musically, technically, racially, politically, socially, historically it is a part of R&B the definition, the phenomena and the music....

If any need was there on this forum to highlight a genre cos there was a feeling it was bending [or breakin] the rules.....then it shoulda come after Bowie's song title entry. U get me?
