Welcome to "Today's Birthdays in Rock"

When I initially started this thread, I had very limited resources. As time went along, I found more and better sources, so the depth of postings has hopefully improved. I also found that, despite the title, I wanted to include artists of other genres, such as notable jazz, blues, country, even some classical artists, basically anyone who has had an influence in music history. I also initially started doing only birthdays, but a very knowledgeable reader (Michael Ary) joined in and began adding obits of people in music. Michael has since left the thread, and I have tried to continue his contribution of listings of anniversaries of the deaths of interesting musicians.

Please feel free to add people who I may have missed, your comments on any particular artist that you like, dislike, or know any little bits of trivia about. Just click "See latest post" or "Newest first" for the latest anniversaries of birthdays and deaths in music history.

Additions for December 5:

(I'm no longer going to repeat some of doodah man's listed birthdays which have over-lapped my finds, my plan now is to only give additions that have not been listed above.)

1971: Craig Gill (UK drummer; Inspiral Carpets).
1965: Wayne Smith (Jamaican reggae musician).
1960: Les Nemes (UK bassist; Haircut 100).
1959: Robbie France (UK drummer, producer, journalist; Skunk Anansie, Diamond Head, UFO) d. Jan.14, 2012
1945: Eduardo "Eddie" Serrato (Texan drummer; "? & The Mysterians") d. Feb. 24, 2011.
1944: Loukas Sideras (Greek drummer; Aphrodite's Child).
1931: James Cleveland (US gospel singer, arranger, composer; considered the "King of Gospel Music") d. Feb. 09, 1991.

And one more:
I know I said that henceforth I wasn't going to repeat any birthdays that our good friend doodah man has already researched and listed above... but I have to add one more that he has listed because this artist is special to me and I always honor his birthday:

1899* (see birth note below): Sonny Boy Williamson II (b. Aleck "Rice" Miller, aka Aleck Ford) , U.S. blues "harp" (i.e., harmonica), singer-songwriter) d. May 25, 1965. Not to be confused with: Sonny Boy Williamson I (1914-1948), also a "blues "harp" player, (b. John Lee Curtis Williamson, "The Original Sonny Boy Williamson", born in Tennessee and associated with Bluebird Records (recordings from 1937 to 1948)

*Sonny Boy Williamson II claimed to have been born on Dec 5th 1899, but researcher, David Evans, claims to have found census record evidence that he was born around 1912. His gravestone has his birthdate as March 11th 1908.
