Saw Roger Waters "The Wall" tour in June. It was pretty darn good. The band was great.

I really wanted to say Dead Can Dance, and it was very good, but not really anything you couldn't hear (better) on an album, and there's not a lot of eye candy to go with it.
On the other hand, I'm really glad a friend got me a ticket to Roger Waters.I saw the original Wall tour and this, unbelievably, was way better, despite no David Gilmour. Best show ever.

I see so many it's hard to pin it to just one because folks I pick and see good shows!

Bruuce was excellent in DC at the begining of the tour playing several new tunes. AND I sat on the very last row at the top!
Waters in the Phillies ballpark was amazing.
CSN suprised me...Crosby sounded great!
Joe Walsh rocked it out and we saw every tune he had rehearsed for the tour.
Van Halen was much better than I expected!
Phish jammed it out in Pittsburgh playing less songs and extending them longer.
Furthur (The Dead) played a great setlist!
Jimmy Buffett was a wild party on the lawn as always.

Oh yeah...Gilbert Gotfried left me laughing for days...his jokes were just plain wrong!!!

But I haffta say that a club show with Bobby Keys and the Suffering B@$tards was better than the above. Dan Baird (Georgia Satellites--and VERY underrated) played guitar and did the vocals. The setlist included songs Bobby had played sax on throughout his career:
B*itch, Brown Sugar, Knockin', Happy, Sweet Virginia, Live With Me, What is Life, The Wanderer, Delta Lady and The Letter!

Coming up: (tickets I already have)
Bruuuce (this time in a stadium with GA seats up front)
Ian Hunter
John Hiatt
Ian Anderson playing Thick as a Brick
Los Lobos playing Kiko
Gov't Mule
The Who playing Quad
Grace Potter

The Tubes

Suk show of the year is easy: Rod the Mod and Stevie Nicks (wife's pick)

I haven't seen that many concerts this year :( didn't even hit a summer festival. Currently my best show has been the Darkness in Chicago at the Metro, I love those goofballs and they put on an awesome show. Was even more exciting because I never thought I would get to see them here in the US again.

However, I am seeing Rush on the 15th in Chicago at the United Center and I am sure this will be the new winner. Loved the last show I saw on the Time Machine tour and am excited for a Clockwork Angels flavored set.

Best so far was Rod Picott/Amanda Shires, but I have high hopes for the John Hiatt concert coming up in October.

Best so far... easily: R Waters, The Wall

runner up: Cheap Trick

mild disappointment: Van Halen

Upcoming though, I'm hitting ACL fest in Austin TX (Oct):

Alabama Shakes (my favorite new band)
Jack White (my favorite newer artist...)
Steve Earle
Gary Clark, Jr (solid up and comer!)
Black Keys
NEIL YOUNG & Crazy Horse
Red Hot Chili Peppers (meh, but I'm already there, so I'll watch 'em)

I have tix for Rush in the fall (Nov).

Bruce was fantastic in Albany back in the spring.

Saw Cowboy Junkies for the first time a few weeks ago - superb show.

Beach Boys at Darien Lake NY. Better than I could ever imagine. 48 songs! I dragged my wife and even she said it was great. Highlights included. "Thats why God made the radio" "Add some Music to your life" and "Hey Marcella" Also tributes to Dennis and Carl were well done with present live performances to videos of "Forever" and God only knows"

McNary - who does Schenker have singing on this tour?

And... do they do any stuff from my favorite album of his (Assault Attack) and if so, how do they sound?

I love Graham Bonnett's singing on that album and to me anyway, he has such a unique voice that I can barely imagine anyone else singing those songs.

zlh67-They play 10 UFO songs, 2 Scorpions songs and the rest are MSG songs from a variety of albums. No one album is presented in its entirety or the focus of the show (Like 7th Son Of A 7th Son is on Iron Maiden's tour this summer. Robin Macauley sang on the 2 shows I saw this Winter but, he did some tours with other singers since. I think he will be back with Bardem when he hits San Diego on Oct. 7.

Two Tub Man says:
Jason & The Scorchers @ Schwoegler's Sugar River Lanes, Belleville, Wisconsin.

$5, in a bowling alley bar??? We expected a couple of short, going-through-the-motion sets by Jason Ringenberg,
guitar slinger Warner E. Hodges, and a rent-a-rhythm section.
What we got was nearly 2-1/2 hours (with no breaks) of wild, sweaty rock and roll, covering their entire career.
Hodges was incredible, the rhythm section of Al Collins (bass) and Mauro Magellan (drums) was razor sharp.
Jason was in fine voice, and spot on with his harmonica playing, also telling some pretty funny stories of the
band's experiences over the years. Stacie Collins (Al's wife), who has a couple of albums out, joined in on vocals
and a pretty mean harmonica.
At set's end, there wasn't a person in the room who wasn't sweating profusely and grinning from ear-to-ear,
even the bartenders. Afterwards, the band gladly posed for pictures, signed albums, and hung out with the fans.

A great set, in what turned out to be a pretty good room, and best of all, totally unexpected.

Bob Bykowski says:
Just saw Bruce & the E Street Band for two nights at Wrigley Field in Chicago. Fantastic as always. 3 1/2 hours both nights without a break; Bruce running out into the middle of the crowd and being hoisted up; guest appearances from Eddie Vedder and Tom Morrello (of Rage Against the Machine) both nights; 14 different songs in the set on the 2nd night from the 1st; Jake Clemons (Clarence's nephew) doing a magnificent job filling in on sax. Still the best live band around - easily.

My concert going has been trimmed back quite a bit but as of yet nothing beats seeing Tool in Reno. Not the best venue. However, I loved that they played a somewhat non-traditional set.

I saw The J. Geils Band last night 9-19-12 in the newly re-opened Capitol Theater in Port Chester NY. They were my first concert ever, october 1972 in my old high school and this was the sixth time seeing them live. They were 11 members strong with the addition of the Uptown Horn Section and two hot back-up singers to complement Peter Wolf, who's voice is still fantastic as are his moves on stage.2 1/2 hours, 30 song set that had my 58 year old ass up and dancing the whole show, they just make me feel younger.Great show, they really now how to entertain the crowd. This band, along with WAR,who I saw in July , need to be in the rock and roll hall of fame.

I have heard the legend of J Geils Band live but have never witnessed it. That needs to change, but they have no dates in my parts last I'd checked....

J. Geils Band touring without J. Geils.
So what's in a name?

In reply to an earlier post on Sep 21, 2012 4:18:24 AM PDT
zlh67 says:
Maybe I underestimate the man, but has there ever been anyone more nondescript and less important to a band that bore their name than J. Geils?

Justman and Wolf wrote most of the songs, Wolf of course sang them and was the main focus on stage, Magic Dick has a name, appearance and presence that cannot be denied and then there's J. Geils, who of all the members of the J. Geils Band, is definitely one of them.
