I always thought of Human League, Soft Cell, and Heaven 17 as synth pop as well. The only true flag-waving New Romantics I remember from that short-lived period of time before everything became "New Wave" were Spandau Ballet and Duran Duran (plus Classix Nouveaux and Kajagoogoo).

I was listening to The Human League's pre-Dare non-hit "The Black Hit of Space" just last night, so I'll throw a vote their way today.

Reproduction and Tavelogue are good pre-Dare Human League albums. Aside from "True", Spandau Ballet never did much for me. But I have to give the nod to Simple Minds due to their excellent output in the 2000's, Black & White 050505 and Graffiti Soul.

Here's a documentary that gives more insight into the New Romantics period

D. Sippel says:
The pack was getting a little too synthy, so I boosted the guitars:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkUeYLHiz58 Strong rocker and amusing video, "Crossed Wires" from Superchunk's 9th album following a 9 year hiatus, 2010's excellent "Majesty Shredding".

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VvdXEHlz-Qg&feature=relmfu Not to go to the well once too often, but this one also from "Majesty Shredding" just plain made me happy watching it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7EHCaeDd77k&feature=relmfu Going back to younger days with the propulsive "Fishing".

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97pLcAxLtHM&feature=BFa&list=AL94UKMTqg-9CzEvE3EwGjNCHRXJ73U1V2 Mac gettin' all romantic with "Driveway to Driveway".

and have to include a couple from the one that put Superchunk on the independent rock scene's radar, 1991's classic "No Pocky for Kitty"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rWTtivhgpZQ&feature=relmfu "Throwing Things"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gykGWkJKPGg no funny video here, just the rocking album track "Punch Me Harder"

Some of the best, most artistic vids ever were done by Ultravox and Visage. Do a search on YouTube for Ultravox's "Vienna" and "The Voice"; also "Fade to Grey" and "The Damned Don't Cry" by Visage. Several members of Ultravox were also in Visage. I do like early Human League before Ian Craig Marsh and Martyn Ware left to form Heaven 17, but not fond of the synth-pop version they became when the gals joined.

There is no group to bestow a minus upon in this bunch. What say we go all positive for a bit!!
