Yeah, I saw some good bands at The Battle Of The Bands. It was sort of a big deal once a year around here. I was about to say they need an "American Band" show, but then they would turn it into a "who's prettier" contest or who has the right moves on stage.

Dog Police

This was one of the bands that won MTV's "Basement Tapes" back in the mid-80s. I have some vague memories of seeing their one video. Quite odd and funny.

I would like to offer "Road Apples" by The Tragically Hip as a good example for this thread.

John C. Harrison ~

I remember: "Dog Police" as it was a contest for MTV viewers to send in their homemade videos and they would pick the best one. "Dog Police" won, and it was really great with people in dog masks going: "Bark, Bark, Bark!" all over the place. This was in 1985, and I departed the USA for Scotland for the next three years and came home in 1988 and almost all of the music on MTV had vanished "Dog Police" became a fading memory but, what a great memory!

Speaking of Land Apples, there was a Detroit soul act called the Detroit Land Apples...I found out that this band was comprised of Detroit session musicians.

Speaking of session musicians... do you know about "The Wrecking Crew"? According to Wiki, this was a nickname coined by the drummer Hal Blaine for a group of session musicians in Los Angeles, California, who earned wide acclaim in the 1960s. They backed dozens of popular singers, and were one of the most successful groups of studio musicians in music history. The Wrecking Crew was inducted into the Musicians Hall of Fame on November 26, 2007.

They released two albums, the first of which was called "Featuring The Human Host And The Heavy Metal Kids" (1967).
