Mathew August: My favorite rock instrumental tune is probably Frankenstein by The Edgar Winter Group, because I love the keyboards and the drums. It always makes me smile and move.

Green Onions - Booker T & The MGs

Yeah.. Green Onions is groovy, as is "Rebel Rouser" by Duane Eddy.

But I also like
"Fire on High" and "Eldorado Overture" by ELO
as well as
"Foreplay" by Boston

CD Lover says:
Love all of those but I'm going with a sleeper (and by that I don't mean it's dull) here. I've always loved The Electric Light Orchestra's "Daybreaker" from their "On The Third Day" album. The record company (United Artists) even thought it was so good they released it as a single. I bought that single then eventually bought the album after hearing "Showdown" and a few other gems.

I also bought the singles "Put It Where You Want It" by the Crusaders and "Outta Space" by Billy Preston and love them both, but they are more pop and/or jazz than rock classics such as "Frankenstein" and "Foreplay".

"Still I'm sad" by Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow. That guy is a bitch of a guitarist.

Bwiched: I love Rebel Rouser, by Duane Eddy. He recorded it in Arizona pretty close to where I used to live, although way before my time. I am an ELO fanatic And Fire On High is my favorite tune of theirs instrumentally.

CD Lover: Outa Space was one of the fist instrumentals I heard from Billy Preston. I got to see and hear him play with Ringo Starr in the 90's around 95 I think. It was one of the funkiest tunes I heard.

My all-time favorite is "Telstar" performed by The Tornados & produced by the immortal Joe Meek. The sound of a future we are yet to discover.

Runner-up is "Apache", many versions exist but the one by the Incredible Bongo Band is my favorite.

Gotta go with FUBB from Wishbone Ash, although Jeff Beck has a lot of great instrumental stuff, especially off Wired and Blow by Blow.

Oh man I totally forgot Samba pa Ti by Santana.

Disco Buscuit: Cool tunes, I love surf music. Telstar is one of the coolest instrumentals I have ever heard. It was way ahead of its time to me. I always wanted to buy Rhino's Surf Box, but I think its out of print for sometime.

Bwich'd: Great tune, I love Santana. I got to see the band in 1985, not as good as their heyday, but less commercial than today.

I was very impressed when I heard Wishbone Ash. I first heard them while watching one of The California Jam Concerts on tv. years ago, very impressive. Anything Beck plays blows me away. Growing up I only heard a smattering of his solo work on radio, mostly just the Yardbirds stuff, which was pretty underrated to me.

I'm just throwing this in here becuase it's not been said I'm pretty damn sure, it's not my favorite, but I love it now, Estate Sale, by the Eels. That album Daisies Of The Galaxy is my favorite by them. I've only listened to two but it's great, not too melancholy. Unfortunately that track is short!
