Are there any good books like this out there. I just read a Gothic that I was so shocked that I loved, loved. Thanks readers!

Gentle from the Night-on my keeper shelf.
The Mistress of Trevelyan-There's a sequel to this which I have, but I haven't read it yet.

I loved Gentle from the Night, and is also on my keeper shelf, but ironically, yesteday I just finished The Mistress of Trevelyan, and I loved it. A nice gothic change.

Dark Desires is quite good. I just finished it yesterday, and the sexual tension is very strong from the moment the h and H meet.

Neeta says:
Kim Lenox Shadowguards trilogy is a good one with a touch of the paranormal. Wonderfully dark and gothic, with steamy interaction between the H and h. Set in London around the time of Jack the Ripper. The Shadowguards are immortals who protect humanity by hunting down the most evil humans and collecting their souls. (Book 1 Night Falls Darkly has our hero hunting Jack the Ripper).

Lydia Joyce has a bunch of dark and mysterious "gothicy" historicals (Victorian England setting). Veil of Night blub: "Under cover of night, he awaits her.... Byron Stratford, Duke of Raeburn, walks in shadow. Spoken of only in whispers, he lives alone in his crumbling manor, a cold, enigmatic recluse. Rarely appearing by the light of day, he moves as a wraith in the night, answering to no man. He cares little for those who dwell outside and does not abide the intrusion of other, lest they discover his secret shame. Lord Raeburn is the sinister man Lady Victoria Wakefield must confront if she is to save herself from her family's ruin. Little does she suspect that she will become his shining star - or that the passion radiating between them will be their only defense against the true darkness threatening to destroy them both...."

Sarah Brophy (Midnight Eyes and Dark Heart) writes historical medievals that are pretty gothic in feel - all dark, mysterious and atmospheric.

Deanna Raybourn writes dark mysteries, gothic themed romance set in Victorian England. I've only just found her and am working my way through the first book, but enjoying it.

And of course you can go to the absolute mistress of all things gothic, Daphne du Maurier - Rebecca, House on the Strand, Jamaica Inn, My Cousin Rachel, etc etc. These are quite a few decades old so of course the sexual tension is quite a bit tamer than the newer authors, but the books are pretty addictive anyway. I never read Rebecca in school, like most people seem to do (changing schools meant I did To Kill a Mockingbird twice and Rebecca not at all). I only got around to reading it a couple of years ago, and loved it so much I had to go and get a bunch of her other ones.

Are you a Teresa Medeiros fan? She's at the top of the game for historical romance in my eyes.
These are not technically gothic, but I'm going to recommend them anyway because of the, at times, dark atmosphere. They're about two brothers, one of whom is a vampire, and the two sisters that love them: After Midnight and The Vampire Who Loved Me. You will love the Kane brothers!

And here's the sequel to THE MISTRESS OF TREVELYAN: His Dark Desires.

Eve silver His Dark Kiss, Dark Desires, and I think there might be a couple of others on this series, all great gothic romances.

Virginia Coffman wrote many Gothic novels from the sixties through the nineties. Quite a number of them are now on Kindle.

Ditto on Scarletti Curse and Lair of the Lion by Christine Feehan. I've been trying to find more books like them but no luck so far. I wish Christine Feehan would write more books like those two!
