Dream a Little Dream (Chicago Stars / Bonner Brothers) by Susan Elizabeth Phillips

The heroine and her son are truly destitute...

It's a beautiful love story. A real tear jerker.

Here are two: Another Man's Baby (Harlequin Super Romance) by Kay Stockham and Alone in a Crowd (Harper Monogram) by Georgia Bockoven. In both cases the girls are pregnant and unmarried.

My favorite read for this theme is The Italian's Wife (A Mediterranean Marriage) (Harlequin Presents, No. 2235).

Another historical is Joan Johnston's Texas Bride: A Bitter Creek Novel

Heroine becomes a mail order bride to provide a home for herself and her brothers left behind in an orphanage. She doesn't tell the groom about the brothers initially, fearing he would have rejected them all.

Shelter Mountain-I would read book one since the hero is introduced in it.
Here's a link for books 1-4 at a great price: Virgin River books 1-4 (A Virgin River Novel). I enjoyed all of them.

Here's another one: A Family of her Own (Harlequin Superromance No. 1195).

Italian Job haven't read in awhile. It fits here. She has tragedy in her life, gets a good job, works her tail off to become a top worker and the boss comes in to meet her. H ends up thinking she is a w**** and fires her. She was so desperate to earn money for her child and his needs now she is lost at what to do. H figures out he is wrong and spends rest of book trying to make amends.

It's a historical and there's no child, but MacGregor's Bride by Barbara Dan has an h who was in a loveless MOC when her husbands ship he captains goes down with all hands and she's left with literally nothing and still owing a great deal of money because the cargo wasn't insured.

That reminds me of The Admiral's Penniless Bride (Harlequin Historical). h is left with hubby's 'traitor' to the crown status and is forced out of all what little they own. He dies and she is left wondering the streets with their little boy. So sad by the time she meets the H. Very good read.

Maid for Love by Marie Force. It's a freebie, and the first in a collection of books surrounding a small town family. A comfortable, predictable, romantic read.

Premise: Maddie has had a hard life. A deadbeat Dad, struggling Mum, gossiped about by the Mean Boys in school, and a baby from a summer fling. Now, struggling to keep a roof over her, and her baby's, heads, her ability to work has been heavily compromised by an accident involving Mac. He works to make everything up to her, to make her life better, and find them a HEA.

I really enjoyed Perfection (A Neighbor From Hell)

from the back of book:
Zoe is used to taking care of herself and has long ago accepted that if anything bad was going to happen, it was going to happen to her. So when she loses her job over something most bosses would probably be happy with and her life starts going down hill from there she doesn't expect it to get any better. She certainly didn't expect any help from the loud jerk next door, but then again she has nothing to lose so puts her trust in him and hopes for the best. What she didn't expect was the once in a lifetime opportunity that he offers her through an arrangement where they both benefit and no one is supposed to get hurt, but she should have known better because her luck has never been that good.

Like most Bradfords, Trevor has a soft spot for food, but that's about all. He leads a pretty straightforward life and likes to keep things simple and that includes his relationships. He wants the perfect woman and knows exactly what she'll be like. So when he discovers much to his horror that he's thinking about his frumpy little neighbor he decides the best way to get his head straight is by working her out of his system. He'll keep her around, but only until he finds perfection.

Forbidden Falls by Robyn Carr. This is from the Virgin River series which I recommend all the time. Anyway, in this book a minister re-opens the abandoned church in the tiny community of VR. He asks for applications for secy and finally settles on the h. She is a single mother who has had back luck all her life but is stll open to happiness. I liked this book because the preacher is a sexual man.....in other words a human being.....and falls in love with the h. There is lot more to this story and I think everyone would enjoy it unless you do not like sex in books you read. This is not porn but it is written for adults and that is how I recommend it. Very good book.

If you like Elizabeth Susan Phillips, you might also try Kiss an Angel where the h, who was ignored by her natural father and raised by her unstable, jet setting mother, goes off the rails a lot when the mother dies. She way overspends (she's always been under her mother's thumb--the mother even destroyed any relationship with a man she tried to form to keep her daughter there) and is in danger of being arrested. The natural father settles her debts on the premise that she would marry a man he designated for at least six months to teach her living skills (he actually has ulterior motives).
