RomReader, does she gain the weight back? or at least some of it? How much of the story is while she is plus sized? Thanks in advance

Tried to post Amazons own links to their ebooks and print books, but for some unknown reason they are object to their own content. Beats me. I don't get it.

If your looking for "Plus Size Reads", which I find rather insulting as it is even as a not perfect model type myself, you have to look for certain tags in "products"

plus size
bbw (big beautiful women)

Discussions on Amazon:
Which type of bbw romances do you prefer?

Jamie Garton says:
Pomma, what do find rather insulting exactly?
I would prefer to be called a plus size lady over being called many of the other things I have been called, by both teenagers and adults alike. I will take Plus Sized anyday...even the BBW is hard to swallow for me.

Pomma says:
No..what bothers me is that societies perception of body image that humans beings even have to have a labels.
I am who I am, and if it a displeasure or discomfort to those that need labels for anyone then it reflects societies issues with it not mine.
Labels shouldn't be needed at all.

Jamie Garton says:
Oh, I agree! I am who I am too, but since I can't stop the labels from being applied I choose to pick the one less insulting and to me Plus Size is an accepted and beautiful term used to describe women who are of a large size.

Personally, I think BBW is to much like a Porno term...but that might be just me.

Posted on Jun 7, 2011 10:56:31 AM PDT
Pomma says:
It does sound like a porno term. I'm sure it was developed by marketing, and more than likely by a man.
But being a very short woman myself just 1 + 1/2 inches over 5 foot, it ticks me off that women have to be labeled period. But as my H says....there is a lot of power in a little package of dynamite.....and a little bit of dynamite goes a long way. *S*

Jamie Garton says:
I love it!
My H is the same...he says that being more of a woman is what makes me perfect for him...awe!

Pomma says:
Awesome! Isn't it great that there are men out there that have that attitude? I love it. I wouldn't want to replace my H. Married very young. After so many years...nah....and wouldn't trade 30+ for anything...*S* Our guys are pretty special.

MaryG says:
Actually, the term was coined by Carole Shaw who started the BBW magazine back in 1979. Initially was a resource (mostly lacking at that point) for those of us who were larger than "average".

Just FYI.

Take Care,

Mary, thanks for the info. I still prefer, if I have to choose, Plus Size.

Nicky, I don't remember much of the book's details but I know she doesn't go back to size 22. She may have gained a little bit of weight back when H gets in the picture. He didn't like her toothpick look.

I just read Suddenly You by Lisa Kleypas. It's a historical romance and the h considers herself plump. She's a 30 year old spinster, and has concerns over her own appearances.

Coffee...I am 60% through the book...there are getting nice and naked in the gambling room!! I love love love Callie! Her sister is also a riot (her reference to their mother looking like a furry banana had me laughing out loud). As you stated her weight is not the focus of the story and I love that Callie isn't obsessed with it. Is it in the corner of her mind; yes! Is it stopping her from doing all these things on her list; no! It spurs her to stop being a wallflower even if it means she is risking everything...

Thanks so much for the reccomendation! I have picked up a few of the others that promise to be like Callie's list I think. I will come back after I finish...I would love to hear more about your feelings on the book!

EDIT: June 15, 2011
Finished! Amazing! I moved on to some Susan Mallory stuff and then I am going to read A Woman of Substance by Barabra Taylor Bradford.

"Maverick Wild" by Stacey Kayne has a heroine who's described as "sturdy" and "curvy." She's got self-esteem issues because her mother was super mean about it (mother was actually pretty evil). References to starving her for weeks before a party. (Historical)

Can't remember if it was mentioned already but "His Teddy Bear" by Eve Langlais is a PNR. H and h are animal shifters. She's a bear and he initially is bummed when he realizes they're mates because he doesn't like short round girls. (Contemporary PNR)

The Catherine Anderson book that mentioned earlier featuring plus size heroine is "Sweet Nothings." (Contemporary)

"Promises Prevail" by Sarah McCarty is more erotica, but has a plus size heroine. (Historical erotica)

If you liked Jennifer Crusie's "Bet Me", then you should check out her "Agnes and the Hitman". It is funny and sexy and Agnes is a size 12 (which is plus size by today's unrealistic standard). Crusie doesn't describe her characters as plus size. The men usually describe them as "patt-able". I loved the book and it's even better on audio.

Hey Jamie! Work has been crazy right now and I finally just noticed your message. So happy that you enjoyed the book. It is one of my all time favs. Have you found any others that match this theme yet? Any other good plus size reads? I really like the theme.

Hi I am not much of a poster but I love this discussion. Here are some plus sized reads I've enjoyed
No Regrets
Lady Flees Her Lord
Courting Claudia
Eye of the Beholder
Harper's Bride
Fools Rush In
Hard Day's Knight (Signet Eclipse)
Houston, We Have A Problem
Some of the h are curvy. Fools rush in was fav of mine and I love Kristin Higgins books. All of her h's are typical woman
Hope you like some of these books

I'm not sure if anyone recommended Rude Awakening by Veronica Chadwick yet. I just stared on it yesterday and it GRABBED me right away. The heroine is a size 18 and has just recently dropped a few sizes. The hero is a total hunk and likes woman with something to hold on to. He is VERY much attracted to her and wants her badly but she is having a hard time with that because she figures he could have anyone he wants so why want her.
There is more to the story than that and I expect this book will have some smoking HOT sex scenes when I get to them, LOL.
