"Sock-puppet or newbie?"

Remember that line from War Games:

What's the difference?

The review ring of sock puppets for Patrick Freeman/Michael Chicanery member reviews are busy stealth promoting his new book. Several of the sock puppet reviews have been removed by Amazon thanks to LG and others. I guess they have their only little book club. I wonder if they have a club name? Any suggestions? Perhaps, socks*for*you?

I'm sure she'll come to visit in BBRs soon, once the freebie reviews start trickling in.

*sigh*

FWIW, I think they're friends/family + possibly self review, who "copied" what everyone else did to make it easier. (I like a title of "None" - might have to use it myself sometime.)

Did you notice that three of the five reviews are all titled the same? I know it is common for some reviewers to use the book title as the title of their review which I have even done it a few times but what are the odds (on this book)?

In reply to an earlier post on Jun 12, 2012 11:05:48 AM PDT
At least her review said something about the book. The other reviews could have been posted for every book ever written.

I just left a comment on this version Don't You Remember.

Haha! I feel like leaving a comment that she can't keep saying she's never written a review before, since her other two reviews are exactly the same!

I would say 4 shills and 1 potential sock (the author, perhaps). The potential sock seems to be the only reviewer that actually knows anything about the book andpoints out details, but when they all say, "I've never written a review,' 'I can't wait for the author's next book,' you know something's fishy.

And why would someone who's never written a review before, post a review on all 3 formats? Did they listen to the audible? Did they read both the Kindle and paper version? Oh, please.

I came across this book Don't You Remember in the "free today" thread. Check out the 6/12 "new" reviewer's reviews (they all say the same thing and are posted on all three versions of the book). http://www.amazon.com/gp/cdp/member-reviews/AMYQ3YHXU0UA1/ref=cm_pdp_rev_all?ie=UTF8&sort_by=MostRecentReview.

Have you visited the Romance forum? I mostly read Regencies so I don't think I can help.

The difference, Trixie, is that you have lots of reviews by different authors.

The reviewers that we consider to be sock puppets or fakes are ones who use the type of phrases that you mention, but they will also be the only review the reviewer has, or the reviewer only reviews that one author. You don't fit into that category.

The only wrong way to do a review is to do a fake review. Don't worry. :)

I read lots of books but almost never review them because I don't know what exactly to say. Well now I feel stupid because a lot of your "clues" I do. Like only review the ones I really love so all 5 star. I read a lot of series so I often put I cant wait for the next one. And I really get sucked in so I say I couldn't put it down only because its true I stayed up all night or put off chores ect. I have even put amazing ending I think. So should I stop doing reviews? Now I feel like I'm not doing it right.

Here's an update regarding the questionable reviews from JB from my post a couple of days ago (Your post: Apr 15, 2012 12:44:32 PM PDT). The pregnancy review is gone and my comments on her other review have once again been removed. At least there is one less shill review on Amazon.

Several years ago a friend asked her little girl, "How do you eat an elephant?" Her daughter's reply, "One bite at a time."

:-)

Zombie Queen,
Here's the link to the Shrill review thread

Can you give a link to that thread?

In reply to an earlier post on Apr 15, 2012 3:20:41 PM PDT
Sadly, fake reviews are to Amazon what theaters were to people in the 60's. (Can anyone place that half-quote?)

We've been busting cheaters like this in the TRF for years. Look for the shill review thread.
