sorry misunderstood the discussion. I agree the Anne Rice novels , I skimed through one a few years ago has nothing to do with romance and does not resemble the books discussed here. It is basically a porn book with no romance whatsoever in my opinion from the little I read like Emanuelle and novels like that.

It involved a kitten and honey poured over a certain part of the woman's anatomy, so it wasn't penetrative, but squicky just the same.

And Lenchik, someone else brought the series up, I was just pointing out that just because they both explored some kink, the two series were NOTHING alike. I didn't want people in love with Fifty to grab up Beauty expecting anything even remotely similar, and then getting shocked and upset.

Kittens? That's just ..... not what kittens are for.

Okay, off-hand I can't think of a use for any animals that way, but wow.

Yeah, won't be seeing THAT on the Today Show.

OMG! I'm going to throw up!! That poor kitten.

If I recall the only book that I ever personally listed on this thread is Bared to You and that was only because there were a at least few similarities to Fifty. It amazes me that some people rec some of the more hardcore bdsm on this thread. Fifty is so tame compared to much of what is out there! It is disturbing to me that so many readers who are new to this genre (because of all the hype surrounding Fifty) are being recommended such hardcore stuff such as TSBT. Talk about leading a lamb to a slaughter.

It's not a book, but I saw this movie recently and I recommend it. It's more of a thriller than romance though. The romance triangle between a photographer, a dominatrix, and a woman who seeks emotional attachment after her father's death make a great story. Here's the link:

A Dominatrix Story

Wanted to thank everyone for the great suggestions of titles similar to Fifty Shades of Grey. Although none are *quite* as absorbing and unique as Fifty---these are what I've read from the "best of the best" recommendations. All are GREAT reads:
Sempre, J.M. Darhower
Dirty, Megan Hart
Gabriel's Inferno, Sylvain Reynard (I know, I know---I did like it though =)
From Rags, Suzanne Wright
Bared to You, Sylvia Day
Beautiful Disaster, Jamie McGuire
I'm reading Thoughtless, S.C. Stephens right now and it will make my list, too.
I would recommend any and all for anyone new to this list jonesing for more Fifty...and thank you so much to all of the posters who suggested these titles. I am new to this genre and it's so nice to have such great advisors....oh, and I have also ordered Sarra Manning's, Unsticky and You Don't Have to Say You Love Me from Amazon. From reading the samples, both sound good, especially Unsticky.

I really loved this book as well. All of my friends are hooked and we are so enjoying talking and laughing about it together. I found the three part series by Lisa Kleypas (Smooth Talking Stranger, Blue Eyed Devil, and Sugar Daddy) to be a good series. As well the Donna McDonald series (Carved in Stone, Commisioned in White, and Created in Fire) to be entertaining as well.

It's really funny and a very short read. It totally spoofs on Twilight and 50, so if you get offended by that, don't read it! I think it took me about 5 minutes to read.

ETA - but it is or was free, and worth the laughs.
