Kate Barley says:
In Past Revenge -- the heroine runs circles around the clueless hero. I don't know that he grovelled that much but she did make him suffer. Usually the heroine has a grand plan about revenge but never follows through -- this heroine planned, plotted, and executed her revenge perfectly. She's as ruthless and vengeful as Linden in Temptation.

Ok, going to wade in on the debate on Lady Gallant. IMHO, I do think he was having sex with Mags (OW). While we know it's a complete setup, a very deliberate attempt to hurt Nora, and is what breaks her in the end, at no point during the rest of the book does Kit try to explain it. Not even when he's desperatly trying to win her back. He explains the other cruelty, the horrible things he said on their wedding night, how he treated her when they moved to his estate, but not once does he do a Clinton moment "I did not have sex with that woman" ;). Even when she tells him to go Mags if he wants some bootie, he still never explains that I think he was actually in the middle of the act when Nora saw.
It didn't detract from the book for me, while I HATE cheating hero's, in the context of this story, it was understandable. He was using it to punish Nora for her perceived betrayal.

Just to say thanks to all of you who've contributed to this thread, I absolutely love it, and have been introduced to some great books and authors over the last couple of weeks!! THANKS!

Toot, I think it comes down to one of those "what is sex" debates. Do you nee actual penetration to call it sex, or will any sexual activity do? I think both sides of the debate have good and bad points. I agree it was an excellent book.

I refuse to acknowledge the passage of time. It was just yesterday, yesterday I tell you.

Erin Lowell says:
Lol, is that it? I thought she was talking about another book's hero who grovelled nicely and I wanted to know which book.
Come to think of it the words she put in parenthesis are very familiar. *grins* Would you believe the reason I did not thought of the former pres. was because I was young that time?

Undone by Her Tender Touch (Harlequin Desire) by Maya Banks has some pretty good grovelling...

h & H have a one night stand where the condom breaks and of course h gets pregnant. H made it very clear from the start that he couldn't do a relationship it was just one night etc etc. Turns out his wife and newborn son died in an accident some time ago and he doesn't ever want to be that close to someone ever again. Throughout the pregnancy h starts falling in love with H and lays it all on the line one night when he throws her declaration back in her face because it terrifies him so much. After she leaves he realizes what a mistake he's making and goes to make it up to her only to find that her apartment building is on fire. there's some good grudge holding by the h and the H doesn't give up and begs for forgiveness and all that. I was happy with it. One thing that is objectionable is that he never actually says sorry but he does constantly ask for forgivenes...

I was hoping that one would be good. Where did you get it, from the Harlequin weibsite?

That is so weird, why not say sorry if he is groveling? Isn't that how you start? Or maybe he wasn't sorry but wanted her back. I'm going to have to get it for the potential grovel. Maya Banks is if-y in that department. Keeping my fingers crossed...

I didn't read the whole thing - I skipped right to the blowup and read from there - but for a Maya Banks story, the H is surprisingly apologetic and the h actually holds out on forgiving him. He doesn't just buy her a house or an island and then everything is forgiven [cough cough, every other hero in this series, cough].

MINOR SPOILERS ---- he stalks her, camps out in front of her door until security makes him leave, sends her flowers and text messages, and then finally ambushes her at a spa and begs for her forgiveness. For a Maya Banks hero, that's the equivalent of following her 20 miles on his knees singing please baby please.
