Is there any author that everyone else seems to like and you just cannot read a book from?

A big one for me is Loretta Chase. I was so excited to finally get to read Lord of Scoundrels and it just didn't work for me. I don't really connect with her characters and I don't find her books very humorous or enjoyable.

I too have been bemused by all the fabulous reviews for Loretta Chase's Lord of Scoundrels, so it's great to find company here!!!

Add Diana Gabaldon (last time I buy all the series before I've read any!!), Meredith Duran, Jamie McGuire (Beautiful Disaster was more of a painful menace to me), and Jill Shalvis to my missable list.

There are other authors whom I find very hit and miss for me. JR Ward annoys me, Julie Garwood is very variable for me, Marie Force too. And Gena Showalter, well I bought the kindle bundle of the first few books, read one and two yrs later haven't been back for more. That can't be a good sign!

I read Lord of the Scoundrels, but don't remember much - going to have to look at it again. I don't think I hated it. For me - Diana Gabaldon - I got it based on reviews and I did not "get it. Maria Force also - Love a First Flight. Remember reading and thinking I shuld have just stopped in the middle.

Eloisa James - Does not make any impression on me ... !!
Sabrina Jeffries - Annoying
Judith McNaught - I can hear many gasps !!! :) I had to bear down and finish "Something Wonderful" then tried to read "Perfect" ... but stopped after a few chapters. Can't see myself picking it up again.
Jude Deveraux - Tried couple of her books supposed to be best sellers. Boring
Diana Gabaldon - Forced myself to read more than half of Outlander and when it still did not hook me .. just decided to forget it !
Judith Ivory
JR Ward
Christine Feehan
Laura Kinsale
Loretta Chase
Lora Leigh
Diana Palmer - h's not to my taste ...
Rosemary Rogers - They don't seem romantic at all ....

Old Rosemary Rogers novels are pretty appalling. I didn't like them even when bodice rippers were all the rage. But I actually really enjoyed her last novel, which I picked up because of the plot blurb without paying attention to the author's name. Hard to believe it's the same writer!

Early Jude Deveraux is far better than current IMO. Sometime around The Duchess her books became more "miss" than "hit" for me.

Pretty much every newly released romance novel these days. I find myself spending my time in old used book stores looking for oldies instead of buying new releases.

I find the newer romance novels all shallow, dull, and emotionless - but filled with lots and lots of sex. Oh heck, those tiny Harlequin Presents have more emotion than what's out these days... Not very surprising since every H/h fall in love and have their HEA within 3 weeks *rolls eyes* (I'd like to see what happens when the *honey moon stage* is over to these couples). .

I think the main problem is that everyones gone too PC, so theres not enough conflict to keep my interest. I don't want rapes or a cheating H in my romance, I'm only asking for more meat to the story.

Sadly, the only author that I still pay money to read is Lisa Kleypas.

I just picked up an old LaVarle Spencer. One of the first romances I read. I remember loving her books.

Agree re Diana Gabaldon--I was bored with "Outlander" it was hard to make through to the 4th chapter it was so borring and slow before I gave up.
