I have been trying to find this book for years now; I just can't seem to find it. So I was hoping maybe someone else has read it and remembers what it is called or the author.

The scene I remember: The heroine is in a dungeon/prison and she somehow ends up tied to the hero. When the hero cuts through the rope he cuts both of their arms which cause their bloody wrists to rub together. In the heroines culture that means they are now married.

Later on I remember a scene with the hero and the heroine's father telling the hero that he needs to learn how to catch dishes. If the wife throws a dish and he does not catch it and it breaks it means they are no longer married (like a divorce).

That's all I can remember about this book, yet I have been wanting to re-read it for years. I just can't seem to find it.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks,
Megan

I believe it was set around the 17th to the late 18th century. I also want to say it took place around Ireland or Scotland, around the time I remember reading this book I was obsessed with historical romances set in Ireland or Scotland.

The only book I can think of off the top of my head with this type theme (Where the blood mixed) is A Year and A Day by Virginia Hemley.

There is a Christina Dodd book, Taken by the Prince where the h knew the H when he was raised by his unloving father (he was the product of the father's vacation--but the woman he used was a member of the deposed royal family of a small principality and she sends him to his father to keep him safe). The h was the poor friend, and became a governess and was traveling with her employers to this same principality where the H had returned to try to free the people. He and she recognize each other and he kidnaps her to keep her from revealing who he is. While in his keeping, she is kidnapped again by dissident relatives and when he comes for her they do a binding ceremony (where is you tried to cut the cord, both would bleed) and it is a mariage ceremony (the h doesn't know it). I don't remember anything about breaking dishes, however.

Edited for typos (sigh).

Thank you,
That sounds good as well, yet still not the one I'm looking for.
In the one I'm loking for the h and H had never met before they both ended up in the dungeon/prison and I want to say she might have been some version of a gypsy. Not completely sure though, it's been so long since I had read it.

I've read about the ways of getting married and divorced you describe in some books with gypsy charcters if I'm correct.

Hannah Howell's Highland Lover starts out with the H & h held captive together in a pit, but I don't think they are tied together.

I do remember this book, though.... the dish throwing bit is very familiar. Will keep thinking...

I hope you can remember the title or the author. The dish scene is what really stuck with me too. Thanks for looking!

Darn it, now this is driving ME crazy! LOL! I've been all through my spreadsheet/list of books and can't find this one, though I'm 98% sure I've read it. It's definitely the bit about the dish throwing that sticks in my brain, but I can't figure out this book!

Hoping somebody else might be able to come up with the title, because it's really driving me nuts now...

Could this have been a Teresa Medeiros book? Not sure why I think it might be hers, but something is tickling the back of my brain...

Her books do sound good, but they none sound familiar. Might end up reading them anyway, but I don't think she is the author I am looking for.

Thanks for the idea though!
