We had fun with this last year -so we are doing it again
anyone is welome to join anytime during the year:

You can read any genre-I just suspect more of ours will be romance ones since this is a romance forum. It is a challenge to pick just one book some months and in other months to even pick a book!

the challenge:
Post here and share your favorite book of the month during 2013 and/or your favorite read from 2013. The book can be from any genre or any year. No requirements and no limits. Just come in and share your love for great books!

Conversation about the books mentioned are welcome here, also.

This will be my list-I will come back at the end of each month and update my post and hope each of you do the same!

February--Lucky by Sharon Sala-3/5** but the best of the month

March-The Best Man by Kristan Higgins another 3/5

April-Love Irresistibly: FBI-US Attorney Series, Book 4 by Julie James 5/5 -gonna be hard to beat!

I am going to say Thrown by Colette Auclair -

I'll probably have a mix of genres, but there will definitely be some Romance:

January-Simple Jess by Pam Morsi (a rare 5 star read for me)
February-The Best Man by Kristan Higgins (4 stars) Not an outstanding reading month
March-No Such Thing As a Lost Cause...A Brandy Alexander Mystery (No Such Thing As...A Brandy Alexander Mystery) (4 stars)
April-Redemption Mountain: A Novel by Gerry FitzGerald (4 stars)
May-A Rule Against Murder: A Chief Inspector Gamache Novel by Louise Penny (4.5 stars) All the Romances I read this month were pretty mediocre
June-Corrupt Practices: A Parker Stern Novel: (5 stars) Addictive legal thriller & hands down the best read this month
July-How the Light Gets In: A Chief Inspector Gamache Novel (5 Stars. Loved it)
August-Through the Evil Days: A Clare Fergusson/Russ Van Alstyne Mystery (Clare Fergusson and Russ Van Alstyne Mysteries) (pretty mediocre reading month)
September-The All-Girl Filling Station's Last Reunion: A Novel (Southern Fiction, 4 stars. No romances worth mentioning this month).
October- Mama Does Time (A Mace Bauer Mystery) (4 Stars. Cute southern "cozy" mystery)
November-A Redbird Christmas: A Novel, 4 Stars. Fannie Flagg writes wonderful southern fiction
December-If Only in My Dreams by Wendy Markham (4 Stars)

Favorite book of 2013 -

BOOK OF THE YEAR: "How the Light Gets In" by Louise Penny. A Mystery, not a Romance but by far my favorite read this year.

I will give it a whirl as well and hope that I keep up with it:

January- Finding Grace and Wallbanger (a tie, I forget that I read it this month when picking my #1) were my best reads this month I was pleasantly surprised. "Painted Faces" would have been it but I read it in December lol
February- The Care and Feeding of Griffins (Lords of Arcadia Book 1) Actually the whole 4 book series of "The Lords of Arcadia" I really enjoyed them but I liked the first and fourth books the best.
March- My mind is like a steel sieve I must say my favorite book of the month is Written in Red: A Novel of the Others with second place a tie between R. Lee Smith book Cottonwood and although very different than Cottonwood Twice Tempted: A Night Prince Novel
April-A thrift store find and a first time read of an old book was my favorite for April This Time Forever
May-
June-
July-
August- Magic Rises: A Kate Daniels Novel
September- After Hours: (InterMix)
October- The Last Hour of Gann
November- http://www.amazon.com/Archangels-Legion-Guild-Hunter-Novel-ebook/dp/B00B7NPRJS/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1388200944&sr=8-3&keywords=nalini+singh

I'd like to join, if it's okay with everyone. I haven't posted much here but lurk plenty. :-)

January - The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie (Mackenzies Series). I have to mark a tie for this one as I just finished Painted Faces and it was awesome! I was hoping I'd finish it tomorrow so I could list it as my February book but alas, I could not wait.

February - An Offer From a Gentleman (Bridgerton Family). Close seconds would be Dark Lover (Black Dagger Brotherhood, Book 1) and No Rest For The Wicked. Loved Wrath and Sebastian Wroth but they had to come in second to the Bridgerton family. That one had me laughing and crying.

March - Kiss of Steel

April - You Don't Have to Say You Love Me

May - Another tie this month with: Secrets of a Summer Night (The Wallflowers, Book 1) and Heart of Iron.

June - Tangled (The Tangled Series)

July - Saving Grace

August - Another tie this month: Crazy Little Thing and The Devil in Winter (The Wallflowers, Book 3)]]

September - This wasn't a romance but I loved it: The Husband's Secret

October - From Bad Boys Ahoy!: Lucien's Gamble, A Novella

November - Incorporeal (The Soul Series)

December - Intimate Deception

BOOK OF THE YEAR: The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie (Mackenzies Series)

neon moon says:
i definitely had fun last year and got great ideas from all who participated, so i'm in.
January-miss whittier makes a list (5*) by carla kelly. great read.

February-the outsider (5*) by penelope williamson. i don't know how to describe the feelings that this book engendered in me. it kind of felt like when you're below the water surface and you can see everything and it's all calm and quiet and beautiful. that's pretty much what this book was to me.

March-night (5*) by elie wiesel. just for the sheer impact it had on me. it is SO hard to think of anyone having to go through what he went through in his life.

April-song of songs (5*) by beverley hughesdon. well written with characters that i became involved with.

May-rangoon (5*) by christine monson. memorable, enjoyable characters who both interested me. watching the H fight his feelings for the h and not quite succeeding from the beginning was a treat.

June-life after joe(m/m) (5*) by harper fox. so well written. definitely lives up to the adage don't judge a book by the number of pages. and if that's not an adage, it should be.

July-making it last (5*) by ruthie knox. i was hesitant to make another short story my choice of the month, but this story just blew me away. the story of two people in love making their way back to one another was fantastically well done.

August-just my luck (4 1/2*) by rosalind james. i read a couple of 5* books this month, but i really enjoyed the growth of the characters and the story.

September-feral sins (5*) by suzanne wright. i liked the story telling and the characters.

October-the locker room(m/m) (5*) by amy lane. such a great story that still makes me upset when i think about it.

November-if i stay (5*) by gayle forman. so sad, but so uplifting at the same time.

December- into deep waters(m/m) (5*) by kaje harper. very simple, with a backdrop of wwII.

Book of the Year-Miss Whittier Makes a List by carla kelly.

Emma says:
I had fun last year too :) Here's to a great 2013!

January- Fight With Me (With Me In Seattle) by Kristen Proby. This was a surprise to me - but with a month with no releases of my fav authors, this was a great find (I read the others in the series this month also, but this was my fav so far)

February- Calculated in Death by J D Robb. I love Eve and Roarke so much, even after a bazillion books. I also really liked Kele Moon's Star-Crossed (Battered Hearts)

March- Twice Tempted: A Night Prince Novel, Book 2 by Jeanine Frost. I also really liked Reckless by SC Stephens.

April- I wasn't too impressed this month, so I'll go with an impulse buy that I really ended up liking Suddenly Royal it was like the Princess Diaries for grownups.

May- This Is Who I Am (Masters of the Shadowlands 7) by Cherise Sinclair

June- What a great book month! Entwined with You (A CROSSFIRE NOVEL) and Heart of Obsidian (Psy-Changeling, Book 12) take the top honors, but I had 2 other 5 star reads as well

July- This Man Confessed (This Man Trilogy) by Jodi Ellen Malpas

August- Rock Chick Revolution by Kristen Ashley (the last in a series)

September- Safe With Me (With Me In Seattle) by Kristen Proby

October- Archangel's Legion by Nalini Singh

November- If Only by Cherise Sinclair.

December- The Professional Part 1 by Kresley Cole. This was a huge surprise for me, since I haven't loved her last few IAD books, but I really liked this (even though it's only the first 1/3 of the story)

Book of the Year- I hate to be trite, but I really love The Crossfire series. I'm sad that there's no timeline for the next 2 books in the series, but this is a deep love story and is my top pick. Happy New Year everyone!

I tried this challenge last year but life got busy over the summer and unfortunately I didn't finish. I promise to do better in 2013! I got a lot of great recommendations from the old thread, so I am looking forward to more of the same this year.

January: Virtuoso (The Duke's Obsession) by Grace Burrowes
February: The Sea of Tranquility by Katja Millay
March: That Scandalous Summer by Meredith Duran
April: The Raven Prince (Princes Trilogy) by Elizabeth Hoyt
May: Once Upon a Tower by Eloisa James
June: Fading (The Fading Series #1) by E.K. Blair
July: Let it be Me (Blue Raven) by Kate Noble
August: Meant to Be (An Anchor Island Novel) by Terri Osburn
September: I Married the Duke: The Prince Catchers by Katharine Ashe
October: The Temporary Wife/A Promise of Spring by Mary Balogh (really 2 books re-published in one volume, but both are wonderful!)
November: The Perfect Match (The Blue Heron Series) by Kristan Higgins
December: No Good Duke Goes Unpunished: The Third Rule of Scoundrels (Rules of Scoundrels) by Sarah MacLean

Favorite Book of 2013: This is a really tough call because I loved all of the books listed above plus so many others not listed. I think I have to go with E.K. Blair's "Fading," though. The story is just so powerful. I'm really looking forward to reading the sequels in 2014!

Krista Lyn says:
Yay! Thanks for doing this again McKaren! I am most definitely in:)

January: The Sea of Tranquility by Katja Millay. Words will never do this book justice. Should be required reading:) It's tough when you read the best book of the year in January;)

February: Risk the Night by Anne Stuart. This hero of this book is an assassin, and it's only 50 pages long, but it's def. my favorite of the month.

March: Arouse: A Spiral of Bliss Novel (Book One) by Nina Lane. Wow. A close look at a marriage, the up's and down's, and a turbulent time that almost ended it all. Amazing, realistic read.

April: Lover At Last: A Novel of the Black Dagger Brotherhood by J.R. Ward. The one everyone's been waiting for. Not at all into m/m romance, but I LOVED. THIS. ONE.

May: True Love Story by Willow Aster. Second chance love story that spans many years. Very amazing book.

June: Fading by E.K. Blair. Huge contender for book of the year. **Warning**contains a vivid rape scene!

July: The Mistress (The Original Sinners) by Tiffany Reisz. Amazing conclusion to the Original Sinners series. I give this one HUGE props because this author did the impossible. She turned my HATE to LOVE and taught me that I was wrong about everything!!!

August: Thoughtless by S.C. Stephens. Amazing hero, annoying heroine. Kellem Kyle is worth putting up with Kiera:)

September: Freeing (The Fading Series #2) by E.K. Blair. Not usually into M/M romance but I love Jace's character.

October:Not Quite Enough (Not Quite series) by Catherine Bybee.

November: Falling (The Fading Series #3). This book is the sequel to Fading. It's told from Ryan's perspective and is really a book all onto itself.

December: The Sinners on Tour books 1 and 2 (Backstage Pass and Rock Hard) by Olivia Cunning!- WOW! Ending the year on a HOT note!!!

Favorite book of 2013: Fading by E.K. Blair
